  1. Does anyone know of a HDD recorder with a large hard drive that has firewire out? I do not particularly care for a set-top DVD recorder because I prefer to use my computer for more flexible authoring, but I would love to have a standalone hard drive video recorder with at least an 80GB hard drive. The firewire out would be nice but I could live with using the Canopus ADVC-100 or DataVideo DAC-100 instead. I have seen DVD player/HDD and DVD recorder/HDD combinations but not a lone HDD recorder. The DVD recorder/HDD unit are nice but very expensive of course. The device I have in mind would be like a Tivo with no subscription or programming guide of course. Call me old-fashion but I love manually scheduling my own recordings leaving extra room at the beginning and end of my programs. I was waiting on the Apex ADR-1000 with the hope that I could clone to 40GB hard drive to 120GB drive and expand the storage partition, but it looks like I will be waiting indefinitely on that unit.

According to the manual, the Pioneer 510 has bi-directional firewire, so this might be something for you to look at. I have no DV content so I settled on the Panasonic E80 which serves my purposes...
