  1. being a noob and trying to find the solution to this problem!
I'vew spent the past few days trawling through the various articles, guides and posts on this site. Which has been a great help in pointing me in the right dirrectio in terms of finding a solution.
I thought several times that I had it cracked but alas no.

    My problem is:

I have an avi file that I wish to turn into a vcd - an obvious enough process in itself.
For the first stage (transfering to mpeg)
    I use TMPGEnc or
Panasonic MPEG -1 Encoder (Which takes considerably longer)

I've done this conversion with other files tons of times, but I've been thrown!

At the same point each time I encounter an error.

TMPGEnc error is - Index of scan line is out of range(280)

Panasonic MPEG -1 Encoder Illegal floating decimal point

I've seen solutions suggested for both of these errors but none seem to work for my problem.

Really I would like to know why thse occur as well as how to fix them so that I can gain a better understanding of the process.

    Cheers for any help.

    I have tried to use:

    DivFix
    VDub
    VDub Mp3 and
    Vdub Mod

It seem sI am not using them correctly as I cannot acheive the results stated in the respective posts.

Please offer any suggestions, all greatfully recieved!

[EDIT] - Sorry for posting a question as my first post! Very bad manners!

Well, welcome to the forum anyway! To paraphrase an old adage: A newbie in need, is a newbie indeed! Anyway, can you tell us what you have done so far to get the video to play?
    Hello.

  3. Right here goes. I've tried dif. stuff in dif. progs so I hope this is the right way round!

It plays as an avi fine. Ecxcept after 12 minutes there is an error in avi and the pic freezes

In Divfix I checked cut out bad part and log errors then ran check errors followed by rebuild index(not sure why this but it sounded a good idea!)

resulted in a divfix copy of the avi which suffered the same errors
    then
Vdub where I Scanned the video stream for errors

Vdub mp3 where I did the sam . However according to the guide it should have saved the list of 'bad frames' I recieved a softwre error which said this could not be performed

In Vmod I resorted to trying to mask the bad frames. Once again the errors occured on the file when trying to convert it

In the end I cut the bad scene entirely in TMPGEnc but to my dismay when I put the file back together and try to convert the error is still ther

DivXfix will let you watch a broken AVI. It's been known to make a mess.

Open the file in VDUB. Then check it for errors. There's a difference between VDUB and DivXfix. DivXfix leavs the errors there, but works around them. VDUB will cut out the bad range of frames (range, as in inbetween the key frames, you could lose 10 seconds of video/audio if it was poorly encoded).

Actually, you can cut around the bad parts, then frameserve it. Especially going to VCD. Take maybe 10 minutes to see if you fixed your problem.
