  1. I have fitted WinFast XP2000 and connected Input and Output devices as per instructions. The lead I am using to connect from camcorder to audio in came with the camera. I get video no problem but no sound. Interestingly when I connected the camera to my TV via the audio/video in on the front of the TV I got picture but no sound but using the same lead via my video to the TV I got sound and a picture. So the lead does work but why not from Camcorder to WinFast?

I have e-mailed Leadtek but not received any replies.

Any advise (in simple form please!) would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume you have went to your audio panel and made sure the 'line in' audio is adjusted properly?

Thanks for the reply. I am a total novice at all of this so assume nothing! I have clicked on the configuration button and audio out and audio recording both have "line in" in the box. Should I have changed these settings?

If ME is similar to XP, go to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio>Sound Recording>Volume. This should give you some volume sliders. Raise 'line in' to max. I am assuming you have your audio plugged into the 'Line in' on your audio card. Not familiar with that card, but you will have to adjust the line in level whether the audio plugs into your video card or your audio card.

  5. I just recently purchased the same TV tuner/capture card for my dad to be able to record broadcast TV and digital satellite. The first thing I would do is check all connections on the PCI card. Make sure that the camcorder's audio is connected to line-in on the capture card and that line-out of the capture card is hooked to line-in on your sound card. Make sure that in the control panel that line-in is selected for recording and that the volume is turned up. This should be okay if you can hear audio using the card's TV tuner. You should also use a VCR to connect to the WinFast card's coax screw-on connector to see if that works okay for testing purposes. If the VCR works then make sure that all connections on your camcorder are secure. Make sure that the plugs are all the way in and that the leads are clean and fully inserted. If the VCR works but the camcorder does not then hook the camcorder up through the VCR to see if that works. If that does not work, then the problem is with your camcorder. For analog camcorders the right and left (red and white) RCA cords need to be combined using a RCA stereo to mini stereo adapter (it looks like a small stereo headphone plug on one end and has two female RCA audio connectors on the other end) before plugging in. I do not think that this cord came with the card, but I can't remember for sure. Your camcorder may or may not have come with this plug but probably not. Also check to see if you only have mono instead of stereo sound coming from your camcorder to see if that is the source of the problem. Definitely try hooking up a VCR by the coax cable connector first. You should be able to find the audio adapter at some place like radioshack, but beware that some salespeople may not know what you are talking about so be prepared to find it on your own.

Or print out a picture like this one and take it with you when you go and buy it.

I had a similar problem with a scart adapter i was using to plug the audio/video leads into, some scart adapters dont have the pins wired up correctly to capture sound (as i found out), video was fine, anyway i lent a friends scart adapter which worked, looked at the wiring and found the two pins that were wired on his but not mine, so out came the soldering iron and voila i now had sound.

Not sure if that is completely relevant to your situation as i am capturing from digital satelite to pc, but its one thing to look at if it similar to the problem your having.

  8. Thanks for the advice the problem seems to definitely be with the lead I am using from the camcorder. Off to the shops (with the printed snapshot!) so hopefully all will be well. After that it is the vcr!

    Thanks again everyone.

  9. Problem solved. The lead was the problem. Guy in Maplins Electronics Liverpool said a lead adaptor for £1 would do the trick and it did! Capture card works perfectly.

    Thanks again
