  1. I am busy converting training material (VHS Video) for my wife to convert to a DVD. Using everything I know, I can't seem to get good sound quality - its either atrad off between good video quality or good sound quality.

What I now have is good video quality but poor sound quality. What tool does anyone recommend to help me "un-distort" the sound track. It seems that the capture volume is too high and try as I might, I just can't seem to get this right. I've tried using Virtualdub (which I can't get to work on my machine) but have now ultimately settled for MPEG 1.4 for capture.

Any advice here would be appreciated

    Thanks

It would be somewhat helpful, if you tell us, how you do the capture (HW card/USB device, in what format (compression) to you save, what sort of HDD do you use, how fast your CPU is etc.

BTW:If your sound is already distorted, there is no real tool to clean up such audio besides filtering the the unwanted overtones and restoring clipped samples (CEP= CoolEdit Pro) can do that. But you won't be satisfied with the result.

Pls be more specific with your HW.

  3. It might be that the audio input level is set too high on the capture software or in the operating system. Ty lowering the volume levels and do a couple of test captures to see if the sound is any better. Don't rule out bad audio cables either.
