  1. I captured some vhs material to my computer using an advc 100. It was a dv type 2 avi with uncompressed pcm. I then did some editing in Vegas 4.0 and rendered it as an avi again. I now want to convert the pcm to ac3. None of the guides seem to show how to convert pcm to ac3. I was wondering if the pcm is already in wav format or do I need to convert to a wav and then to ac3? After converting to ac3 I will be encoding the video to MPEG2 in TMPGEnc before authoring.

You are correct. PCM is WAV. In DVD circles you'll also see it called L/PCM. It's uncompressed audio. the same format on audio CDs, but sampled at 16 bits at 48Khz (compared to the 44KHz of CD audio).
