Just checked out a whole pallet full at the local Wal-Mart. These seem to be Q3 2003 so I don't know what is available on them other than the region hack. $60CAD is the going rate. Will have to add one of these to my stable of players as my Malata 393 refuses to play many Jpegs and can't play straight Mpegs...

Got one just last week.....Everything I have read about this 'box' it true.

    PRO's :
Plays DVD (of course) NTSC and PAL(pal monitor required), VCD, SVCD, MPEG1 & MPEG2 video clips, MP3, and will do JPEG slideshows.
Thats about as far as I have tested it.
Has Component Video (not tested as my TV doesn't have), S-video , Composite, and digital audio outs.
Region 'hack' works on one of the 2 I bought. .

    CON's :
Cheaply made ...but what do you expect for $50. And it runs hot . (I plan on fitting a small 12volt cpu stlye fan in back of case.)
Only available in silver - looks odd beside my other black A/V stuff - more an asthetic inconvience that a 'con'.
NO - Macrovision 'hack' - a con for some - non issue for me.
No progressive scan - again $50 people ...just 50 bucks......

Summary : For $50 you cannot go wrong.

Got one this past afternoon and did the Multi Region remote hack to it. Now I can finally play my Region 2 discs as well as my region 1's...

  4. I hope they get some in my area! My DP300 has played everything I stuck in it so far, even mpeg 1 or 2 files not yet authored!

Never tried Divx or avi's though

Had mine about 9-10 months or so, haven't had any problems!
Would like to get another one if I find it, hope thay are still the same as the one I have now.

I tried a DP312, the one I had was garbage, but maybe someone had droped it off a truck before I bought it??

I too just noticed the new shipment of dp300's at the local CAD wallmart (Brampton, Ontario).

Which is unfortunate, cause 2weeks ago I asked a few sales associates and they said they would not be getting any more in, ever, so I went and bought one off ebay.

The ones I saw were all, Q2 2003 though. Here is a sample that I wrote down:

    Q2 2003

Are these ones just as good as the previous DP300's (aside from lack of macrovision and that special firmware)? Most significant for me is dvdr/w playback. Anyone able to test that?

The dp311's were pretty much a wash, so I am wondering about the hardware inside the new dp300s.

    Thanks,

    Aggies

Same as the last bunch. These work great for multistandard playback and Mpeg files. Great addition to my DVD player collection.
