  1. Ok, i dl's a couple of mpg clips from the net. it came in 2 parts so I joined them with rejump movie joiner. makes one mpg file. I checked the file after joining and it plays all the way through with windows media player. I decided to see if i could 'clean' up the vid (you know, make it a little more eye appealing!) using mainconcept encoder. it seems to look a little better.

Now, I go to TMPGEnc DVD Author to burn to make my dvd. Heres the prob: the entire movie joined is 1 hour 50 mins but tmpgenc dvd author is only recognizing 1 hour 7 mins. I thought maybe the mainconcept encoder did something bad so I tried to use the original joined movie(the untouched joined version), but the author only recognizes 1 hour 7 mins!

is this a joiner problem or a tmpgenc dvd author problem? btw i tried adding the seperated mpg clips and they work but I wanted to use the one that i re-encoded using mainconcept as it looks a little better.

You may have a bad frame since your video is downloaded. Check to see if the video stops in the same place all the time. If it does, check for bad frames.

  3. Can you tell me how to do that? also how to fix them? or would it be easier to just use the original downloaded clips since they load into author fine?

Load the mainconcept video into Virtual Dub mod. Select Video-->Scan video stream for errors. Then get back to us.

  6. no report of bad frames from vdub mod. however the same time error occurs (only reports the first hour or so). I think the joining did it. I'll author the movie without joining it. (or re-encoding it since i still am not quite positive that it had that much impact on the overall quality.)

You can also use the Merge & Cut function from TMPGEnc to join the files. I hear the do not re-encode them.

  8. Hey thanks for the Tmpgenc merge suggestion...I had fogotten all about that proggy! Worked like a charm.

So this is what i understand then: When using rejump to join movies, Windows Media will recognize it but Tmpgenc DVD Author wont.
