  1. Well, Im looking at this liteon LDW-411s. Its the only drive I've seen with 4x DVD+R (and rw) and -R recording! Most other drives have 4x for +R, and 2.4 for +-RW's.
    Also this has 40x cd-r and 24x cd-rw...

Again, the only drive I've seen with these high recording speeds for all formats (except -RAM, which i dont need).

Anybody know of another drive that has these (or better) burning speeds?

The Plextor PX-708A has the same specs plus 8X writing for certain (approved by Plextor) DVD+R discs. The other dual format burner with the same DVD writing speeds is the Sony DRU-510A, but with slower CD writing speeds.

BTW you may want to read the following links before commiting to a Lite-On LDW-411S:

  4. AARRRGGG! Well, those links just changed my mind, apparently the 411s cant do DVD-R very well at all....ok then...
anyone have any other suggestions for a relatively cheap ($100-$150) dual format drive with 40x cd-r burning?

  6. Really? What type of media were you using? I'm planning on using the cheapo kind, people seem to be having problems with those. And is your firmware upgraded?
