Dear All, I have converted a Xvid movie to SVCD with TMPEGnc and burnt it with Nero 5.5. I have done many SVCDs with TMPEGnc and Nero before without problems but never from an Xvid source. After spending a good part of the last 24 hours encoding, I use 2 pass VBR with the highest motion detection (very slow), I am now finding that the movie freezes at a specific point of time. The pichture is frozen but the audio keeps playing fine so I can hear but not see . I originally burnt the disc with Nero at 8x with Disc-at-once and then again at 4x with Disc-at-once/96 but the movie freezes at the exact same point of time. Can anyone shed some light on this please? Thanks in advance-Lars

Before burning did you play the mpeg on your PC? Does it have the same problem? If it does, then click the link below on how to scan for bad frames.

Dear Zippy, thanks for very quick reply! I downloaded Power DVD 5 trial and tried to play the files from HD with no luck. I can't add the files to the playlist. It looks like the player can't recognize the file format for some reason, under filetype it only states the last few words of the name I have given the file. I could play from the CDR but it freezes at the same point as on my standalone DVD player. Any ideas? Appreciate your assistance-Lars

If the file plays the same on the CD in both your computer and DVD player then that points to a fault in the mpeg, as burning to disk usually doesn't cause this type of problem. Did you scan your file for bad frames? Click the link below.

Dear Zippy, thanks again! I had checked the Xvid for bad frames IN in Virtual Dub, not realizing V-Dub MP3 was a different software, and finding no bad frames. After downloading V-Dub MP3 and running the Xvid it found about 140 bad frames in a row! So after saving the new .avi in V-Dub MP3, converting the sound in Virtual Dub again I am now encoding the movie once again in TMPEGnc. I'll let you and everyone else know how it turns out. Thanks a million for your time and help-Lars

  6. I have a variation on this problem with VCDs. I have made several VCDs with PBC sucessfully with VCD Easy and Win98. After moving up to XP I have had problems. First I had to relax APC restraints to have entry points- not on 98. Now the file works with Daemon Tools but not after burning. If you let it play it will play all the way thru. With any use of PBC it jumps to the approiate "chapter" plays about a half a second then the screen goes blank and the sound cycles from the beginning of the chapter.
I have tried comparing the XML from previous VCD and cannot find any differences. I tried using the VcdDebug in the VCD Easy folder but it doesn't do anything. I tried using IsoBuster to compare the layout of various VCds - but it tells me that my succesfulk VCD are blank dics? I know these are full functiong VCDs so I am stumped. Any ideas
