If you mean plain 'rename' and NOT 'convert',
us MS-DOS Command Prompt. Go to the directory of your ASF file by typing:
cd c:\<dir name>
and then rename it with
rename <asf filename>.asf <new mpeg name>.mpg
be warned. your mpg will not play correctly or not play AT ALL!
What's the point of this? -
left-click on the file name, delete asf and add mpg.
Do you think, this makes any sense?

it is a way of hiding files from web server scanning bots.
many free hosts do not allow mp3's so ppl change the file name to .gif which fools the scanner.

what is your OS? if it is win 9x/ME just goto VIEW/FOLDER OPTIONS/VIEW then uncheck the box HIDE FILE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES. simple as that.
