  1. hi-

i seem to be stuck at capturing video at 320x240. i can't capture at higher or even lower resolutions. i keep getting 'error-unsupported format'. i have tried a lot of the suggestions here but nothing seems to work. i have an ibm pentium 3, 700mhz amd processor, 20gb drive,192 ram, winme and dazzle video creator 50 which plugs into the usb port 2.0, latest drivers. is it a limit of the device or am i missing a basic step somewhere? my next purchase for the machine is a video capture card but i should be able to capture at different resolutions as is. any ideas?

  2. I had the 50 or 80 for about 1 day. It is a piece of overpriced junk. If you want a cheaper BETTER alternative, get a ati tv wonder PCI card (not the ve kind). Then you will be able to cap at standard vcd, svcd, cvd, and dvd resolutions (and anything in between). You can purchase IUVCR or powervcrII(and do a registry tweak) and do some real nice caps.

Take a look at lordsmurf.com and look at some of his guides.

  3. Limit of the device. You'd have to get a different Dazzle device(I think its the 150 for higher res).

I had the 80 and didn't use it for very long. I always had a/v sync issues and the quality was never good enough for me.

If you wanty an external device, I'd suggest a Canopus. If you want an internal capture device, then I suggest the ATI AIW 7500 Radeon or above.

You can pick up a Dazzle DVC II off Ebay for under $100, it makes excellent MPEG2 captures and does VBR also. I have been extremely satisfied with it. What made this card great was using 3rd party software in conjunction with Moviestar that comes with it. TMPGENC Authoring, DVDShrink and Nero 5.5 for finishing it off.

Check this site out if you decide to buy one.

They provide 3rd party capturing software, all Freeware. They also have a registry fix to prevent audio/video sync problems, it works too. I use their TWNH 1958 app for capturing under Win98/SE which lets me split the captures due to Fat32 file size limits...Excellent
