  1. Hi-
I have an HP dvd300i writer. it is a DVD+RW drive. I am wondering if DVD-R/DVD-RW media CANNOT be utilized in my drive. I have some blanks I bought from an acquaintance and I don't know their format, but they don't work in my drive. I did not occur to me to verify their compatibility. Thanks very much in advance-

Yes, you have guessed correctly. If a DVD burner is a +R/RW only, it will not burn DVD-R/RW disks.

If you have a DVD-ROM drive, you can download and install DVDInfo Pro and put the disks into the DVD-ROM and DVDInfo Pro will tell you what kind of disks they are. However, some DVD-ROM drives cannot read both DVD-R and DVD+R disks. You should check the compatibility of your DVD-ROM, if you have one.
