Ive noticed somting that almost everybody has strayed off of xml codeing to create their menus.
Since because of all these gui programs have come out,
ie) vcdimager, TSCV, NERO
these programs are soo easy that people wont even look at xml codeing anymore. Also it leads to more questions when the "automatic" program screws up on them.
Trust me i still beleve in XML codeing in my vcds cause its clean and when you know what it does, you can create good shit for free! and so that leaves me to focous more on the quality of mpegs and STILLS
just one problem im haveing now is jus CREATING A GOOD MPG STILL TO USE AS A MENU.
What programs do you people use ?? for authoring for everything?

I agree with your sentiment...
The best way to code XML is with Notepad or any other text editor.
As for creating mpeg stills, as far as I'm concerned, no freeware solution out is particularly good. I still use CD Motion to create a small VCD image with the stills I want and let CD Motion do the still mpeg encoding. Then, I use VCDXRIP to extract the mpeg stills.
You can do the same thing with Nero.
Regards.

Regarding making MPEG stills...
One freeware solution that I have not tried...
There is a freeware program called bmp2avi available here:
http://www.pcwin.com/software/review.asp?ProgramID=3282
Anyhow, you could use this to generate an AVI from a BMP, and then convert the AVI to MPEG using tmpgenc.
Again, I haven't tried this utility...and it is command line. (Although, there is a shareware program out with the same name that perhaps is a nicer version...but I'm not sure they are the same program.) But perhaps it would be helpful. -
I Downloaded the program you showed me.
it seems to work like a charm. But i have yet to convert the avi file to mpeg to see if it realy works on vcd
Its pretty simple to use, just put the exe program in the same folder as the BMP and then start up the program it will find and convert the image to avi.
anybody else who is willing to try is welcome because i want to see if this can be a good program for stills

Basic question...
I know HTML. There's tons of sites that'll teach you HTML. Where can I go to learn XML... but not all of XML, just enough XML to make intro videos for my VCDs? Perhaps I'll branch into all the XML later, but for now I'd like to just toy with it for menus. I haven't tried to make menus at all yet so if I'm going to learn a way to do it, I"d like to learn the "RIGHT" precise way to do it. Thanks! -
The most authorative site on XML would be the W3C, but be warned it is easy to get lost in the technobabble that the W3C in infamous for.

This site will give you less heartburn:

Mikewg,
vitualis made a pretty damm good tutorial explaining the use of xml for vcd using vcdimager. good stuff i think its located either in the forums (do a search) but i think its in the VCDimager home site as well they have some good explanations and examples there too!

You probably don't need to know the ins and outs of XML to code for the XML for VCDImager... I certainly don't!
For information on how the tags work in the XML file, the VCDImager manual is a wealth of information. I wrote an article on this a while back here: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd/
There are sample XML files on the VCDImager website -- some of varying complexity and several of DVD rips.
