hi, long time member, 1st time forum-asker, i have a problem. i have just about all of the codecs, gordian knot, divx 5, xvid, ffdshow, ac3 filter etc etc, i have just about all of the versions of TMPGEnc, i find the older 1's are sometimes better with the older avi's, and the versions of vdub. now i have a couple of avi's that i cant convert with TMPGenc at all. i firstly used avicodec to see what codec was used to encode, i have that on my system, so that was no worries, i next ran it through vdub mp3freeze, to see if there were any errors, there was and i removed the bad frames and saved the new avi, i then tried to run it through tmpgenc, it opened the avi with no probs at all, i done all the bits and pieces and when it was ready to encode,it did nothing. it was a black screen, nothing moving at all, no counters, nada. after a little bit, it would just dissappear all together, or sometimes i would close it and it wouldnt responed, so i would have to force it to close, this happened on all versions of tmpgenc, even the plus. i also ran it through nero to convert and burn for me, but that also crashed. i have read just about all the info in the "convert section" about using tmpgenc and errors, but they didnt work. the strange thing is that i can open the bloody thing on windows media player.
another problem is i have another divx that i cant even open on wm, only divx player, and i am having the same probs trying to encode the thing to a vcd.
if this makes any sense to anyone out there and know how to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

  2. A few things. First, under environmental settings in TMPGenc, increase the priority for DirectShow Filter and ffdshow. Personally, I hate ffdshow, it screws up everything for me. Get rid of it and simply use the appropriate codecs for avis. If you can open it in Vdub, frameserve to tmpgenc after scanning for errors. If it has errors and won't let you frameserve, write an avs script for AviSynth and try loading that into vdub.

dont worry, dont anyone rush to help me with my problem, bar you xtreemkareem, i have found out what is happening,(well not really!), it is just taking for ever for TMPGEnc to encode the video, like 5-6 hrs, when normally it would take 1-2 hrs, dont know why, but just is. i re-installed the gordian knot codecs and it is finnaly working! yahhhhhhhh!
thanks to everyone who looked and thought about answering, and a big thanks go to xtreemkareem who made me rember to up the direct show filter so that i have no probs using the new versions of TMPGEnc, and another big thanks to myself for forcing me to have a little bit of patience to let tmpgenc to go overnight to see what happens. again thanks everyone!
