I just encoded my first .AVI movie using TMPGenc and the resulting .m2v file turned out to be 5.2 GB and then I also have the audio as a .wav file at about 1 GB that I'll all need to burn onto a DVD+R disc. I'm assuming I need to do the video over again and try and get it to a smaller size? Correct? Any ideas on how to get it smaller.

    Thanks

compress your audio to mpeg audio or ac3 first off ..

re-encode your video file would be one method to reduce size ..

or go ahead and make your dvd project and use dvdshrink on the VIDEO_TS folder you made (before burning it) on your hard drive ..

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll change my audio to MP3 and see what that does.

Is there a way to tell how big your video file will be once you encode it before you actually do it?

you want mp2, not mp3, if you want it to play in a standalone.

Go ahead and author your existing oversized .m2v file and ignore the warning that it won't fit on one DVD. Then use DVDshrink to reduce it to a size that will fit on one DVD.

This will reduce the bitrate somewhat but that's going to happen anyway if you "go back to the drawing board". 8)
