just try to use and the first time you use the Adobe MPEG export feature you are asked to activate the feature either by the Internet or by phone. Then you are greeted with the interface, which allows you to choose an MPEG Preset: DVD, VCD, SVCD or Advanced.Originally Posted by LivinNsc

If you want to avoid hassle, everything has to XP compatible (for ease of use and convenience at least). Items that are not XP compatible may not work properly (doesn't mean they will not work but may fail on a first sharp curve...).
You need:
-fastest processor you can afford AMD XP Barton 2500 and up (cheap)
-min. 512 Meg FAST memory or more if u want
-biggest HD u can buy (Western Digital is excellent, Matrox) 133 ATA or SATA, many cheap 160+ HD"s to buy
-video card is almost irrelevant (good to have Video out) used for playback only, so ANY decent card WILL DO unless u want to use it for capture to PC, then look at ATI AIW series
-motherboard from a good name but not too expensive, Gigabyte, Abit or so, for 120 $ u can get a powerhouse nowadays
-USB2, firewire and sound should be "on board" (don't buy extra cards), u may upgrade sound for 50 $ later.
-DAC-100 Datavideo for capture unless u have miniDV camcorder with pass-through (DV IN and OUT) then u don't need it.
-don't worry about software now, many packages avail. on Ebay for pennies
-DVD+-RW of your choice (you may follow forum ratings, plenty of websites too like CNET)
Don't spend money on a brand name system, have somone build it 4 u.
That way you are 100% Microsoft compatible plus no issue with upgrade (everything fits). Buy Midi tower for future expansion. Doesn't matter whether Intel or AMD (me? AMD, never had an issue). Intel rendering and encoding: a notch faster but we are talking max 5-10 min. saving on a 1 hr. encoding job. Intel is more "brute force" when it comes to calculations needed for encoding. Go AMD. keep in mind 1 year from now, you are already obsolete. Good (but not too expensive MOBO) will let u upgrade and keep up to date for 2-3 years. Do not go crazy, you won't be professionally encoding 8 hrs a day 365 days. EVERYBODY in this forum was producing videos not long ago on much less capable system. And it worked (it's just a matter of time u spend).
The rest will come in the process of learning. Thats what I did and it worked for me A+++. -
Damn, don't know how it happend but I'm good 10 days late with the posting (!?). Anyway, these words are for anyone who faces similar dilemma.
