Hello
I am new to Vegas 4.0. I have tried to import mpeg2 files encoded by the Pinnacle DC2000 as *.mp2 [* is used to denote a random file name and does not appear in the actual title of any saved file] In trying to import under file or import under media--Vegas 4.0 states that this is not a recognized file format.
I have tried renaming the file mp and mpeg and this has not hepled.
The mpeg files created via the Pinnacle DC2000 are compatible with Sony/Sonic Foundries DVDit LE and MYDVD--however, these same files are not compatible with Sony/Sonic Foundry DVD Architect.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you
John

are you trying to import the audio or the video stream?
Vegas supports .mpg files, but it doesn't appear to support .mp2 audio streams.- housepig

mp2 audio streams are supported in vegas .... name them to mpa if any problems ...
vegas also seems to be able to convert apple itunes files no problem to mp3 ... weird ...

Thanks for the replies.
I am trying to import a video. After capture, the Pinnacle DC2000 creates two files the mpeg as mp2 and an audio file as wave.
I have been successful in importing the wave file and converting that to ac3.
I must admit that I am unfamiliar with the concept or term of a "product stream." I was hoping that Vegas 4.0 would handle the file and that I was somehow inputting the file incorrectly.
Thank you -
as i mentioned before .. use tmpgenc mpeg tools (its in the tmpgenc encoder and you only need the free version)
use mpeg tools -> multiplex "select program stream as type" -> browse and select your mp2 file -> hit the start button ...
then take the new *.mpg file that you just made and drop it into vegas ..
there you are !!"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Once agian my thanks.
I will download and try tmpegenc.
Thank you for the procedural explanation.
