  1. hi i just recently built a new computer with an AMD Athlon XP 2600+, MSI Nvidia nForce 2 chipset motherboard and Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card, and i try watching something on windows media player (mainly avi/divx anime) and it would randomly freeze and make a never ending screeching noise out of the speakers and i have to reboot. can anyone tell me if its the graphics card that does this??

The FX 5200 is well know to be a very poor card. if you can return it, I would get the next model up.

I had a PC do the same thing a while back. It was the video locking the PC and the sound card would continue to play the last note or data it had. Replaced teh video card and drivers and it worked.

PS May not be the same issue, but the reviews of the 5200 point me in that direction.
