I am having a problem with WMP.

I can't get audio. I have uninstalled Real Player, Quick Time. I uninstalled WMP and did a reinstall and everything works but the audio.

I am pulling my hair out ....... both of them.

Oh, I did check the mute button. :>)

    Any suggestions.

Audioa t all? Of specific Audio. AC3 is not natively supported. Will it play Audio CD's and/or MP3's?

Sounds stupid: Did you actually plug the speakers in the correct hole? Does the Line out work in your stereo? Does device manager show a yellow exclamation point?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the sound on the machine works. Real player works fine. I also am using a audio editing tool, Cool Edit Pro, it works fine, CD player works, WMP plays perfectly, but there's no audio.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Real and WMP as well as dumping completely Quick Time. But still WMP audio won't work. I've tried unselecting all meia associations in rean and associating all media types in WMP, still no audio.

WMP worked when I first got the machine. But in adding other software and such, somehwere along the way I've lost audio on just the WMP.

    Frustrating!!

You can try this. Re-install your operating system just to repair the OS. Sometimes during the un-install procedure it removes some of the dll's in your system. Repairing your OS will put put back the original dll's on your system.

Will I need to back up files such as word or will the re-install not effect saved files?

Repairing the OS will not affect any files on your hard drive. It will only put the original installation files on the system.
