  1. Ok I just recently got a dvd brunner (NEC 1300a) and have been reading the how to guides on certain topic. What I want to do is to convert an xvid file into mpeg 2 to play on my PS2. All the guides that I have read say to seperate the audio from the movie and convert the audio seperate. First question is can someone explain to me why you need to do this. Also I would like to know if I could just use vdub mod to do this.

You separate the audio from the video to keep it in synch when you author it DVD. Select File-->Save wave to save the wave.

You still need to separate the audio. You just need Virtual Dub to separate it, or Gold Wave. the choice is yours.

You will another program. Virtual Dub will frameseerve it to another program, like TMPGEnc, but you will only need to encode it once when you do this.

I've always been confused by this one. EVERY SVCD or VCD I've done with seperated Audio and Video has sync issues. When I leave them combined it works every time.

You do if you have synch problems. If it causes synch problems for you, then by all means avoid it like the plague.
