  1. i don't where you got that idea ...
I've experienced it before and so have other users on this thread. I still have some of these "problematic" Riteks. Data is fine, but for video the discs skip and then freeze. No, its not because I burned it incorrectly, since my other ritek, optodisc, lead data, taiyo yuden, and maxell are fine.

Here are some threads where users have reported issues with Riteks. I'm not saying they are bad, they indeed to have a low failure rate and are good discs in general. Sometimes you do get duds though, you just haven't been unlucky yet.

ok --- looks like 2-3 people had some problems , first i really noticed it and the general feeling is overall - they are very good brand ..

i know there were some fake ones being sold also (on ebay mostly) , ritek isnt alone in with this problem ..

Ah! This makes sense. (Although my 200-disc order was four 50-packs from RIMA.)

Save the environment. I can live with that.

Ritek, Sony, Pioneer, TDK, Maxell and MCC have all had fakes at one time or another since 2001. I've seen them with my own eyes.

Ritek failures can happen, but my experience shows user error, DVD player issues, fake media, burning software non-compliance or hardware issues as the real problem at hand.

Hmm, maybe they were out of 100 packs and substitutted 50's?

I may be ordering 100 printables this weekend, see if I gt 100 pack or 2 50's.

Maybe I'll luck out and get 5 25's

Supermediastore may be cheaper after shipping and 10% discount. It was for a 25 pack Ritek G03.

I just used up 50 RITEK G04's. Only 3 coasters, all directly realted to the latest DVDDecryptor not handling bufferunderun correctly. Changed to Nero at #20 and no coasters since then. Of the 3 coasters, 1 still plays, just has a total video hiccup at the 90 minute mark.

  9. NewEgg.com has Ritek now. I've never had a problem with Rima.com (after LordSmurf's recommendation), but I needed some discs fast and NewEgg was $91 shipped for 100. Ordered on the 5th and they arrive on the 7th (from West Coast to East Coast). That's not bad.

I've burned probably 500+ Ritek and never had a problem with 3.8 limit or compatibility.

  12. I think i might have gotten a bad pack of Riteks. I just purchsed a 25 pack of G03's and I burned 4 out of 4 coasters. they all have errors at about the 3.8GB mark. I tried other media using the same Data and they work great. But I do beleive that Ritek is very good so I called supermediastore.com and they said i could exchange them.

The only thing BJ_M could be called a pirate for is taking those tgpo films, putting them on DVD and selling them on ebay. This is just a rumor but I have heard that he has made about $3.75.

    BJ_M = pirate..........I think not.

  24. What is a tgpo??
I see that mentioned so often in various forms.
And now I see one, with 5,XXX posts?

    Hello Mr. TGPO

Back to wrappers and boxes. I orderd 100 Ritek printables from rima friday. They were shipped and been on the Fedex truck somewhere ever since, show as left CA like friday, but nothing since??

Orderd CPU and Sytem board from Newegg then too!
They were riding around town on the Fedex truck last I looked, Why they didn't stop and give them to me I don't know?? This morning tracking said on truck for delivery, tonight it says on truck not yet schedualed for delivery, huh?? What the hey? Oh well, and I think Teusday is a US holiday, I was thinking I would get all my stuff, but I bet Fedex is not running today because of that?? Grrrr.... I want my disks, I only have 60 leda/princos 1x and 15 ritek 4x disks left
    I need my printable G03's

So, when ever Fedex gets here what conclusions have we reached on the best opening methods?
First I have 100 Riteks to open, maybe wrapped?
Then I have a system board, for sure boxed! Is that same as burner boxed?
Then we have another packing even worse, the dreaded retail CPU molded plastic case.

Now to make matters even worse, I am sure the system board and cpu will be in a larger box together, that needs opened. OH, and to think as a kid I use to actually like popcorn! Ugh, I haven't even finished eating the last box of popcorn newegg sent me yet!

And I suspect a large box for the 100 pack riteks also since I am getting 100 cases too. Oh what was I thinking, not enough boxes to begin with, I had to actually order 100 more??

    By the way adam,
"Ritek isnt the best disc, Yaiyo Yuden are better"
Can I get Yaiyo Yuden 2x printables for 95cents US, or $1.25 for 4x Yaiyo Yuden printables? I think not!
In considering the best disk one should also look at price. Riteks seem to be doing great and are low cost compared to $1.90 for the same type Taiyo Yuden. $65 more per 100 disks? That's over half the cost of 100 Riteks and I am certain Riteks don't have a 50% failure rate, so for value I would have to say Riteks are the better disks, even though I never used Taiyo Yuden myself. All a disk needs to do is be burned correctly and play correctly and last forever. So far I haven't seen any major complaints that Riteks have any problems doing those 3 things.

  25. Where are you shopping m8? I get Taiyo's for half that price, Ive burned 400 without any failures and I ve had at least two dud batches of Riteks, Im afraid to say Riteks arent up to same quality as the Japanese made Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 4 x disc..

i disagree -- yes Taiyo's are good quality , but so are riteks (and ive burned many 1000's of them -- in fact whipped out 100 just yesterday and last night (i have many burners and a duplicator))

  28. Also, (I forgot to add) The taiyo's burn at 4.2 x , not strictly 4 x like many other makes of disc,
These are unreal discs, nicely weighted, edges feel better than most original pressed discs,

I cannot praise them enough guys.

Taiyo Yuden all the way here too!

I compared Ritek's with Taiyo Yuden many times. Huge visual difference. You feel "safe" using T.Y. even by looking at it.

Ritek's Okey, I don't wish to doubt that. But Taiyon Yuden is the TOP and best discs out there hands down!
Also there are more expencive than Riteks. And because there are better quality, doesn't mean that there are more compatible than Riteks. Riteks plays well on X-Box, while with Taiyon there are sometime issues (expecially older x-box machines)

The colour of Riteks is darker, more purple than Taiyon's discs (I talking only for DVD-R, not +R discs, this format is rare here in Hellas, everybody uses -R discs, believe it or not...). Maby this makes the difference. Taiyon discs are more Blue like than Purple..

Adam: Could I ask where you buy your Taiyo Yuden discs? Cheapest I've seen is $2.00 for printables, $1.90 each for non-printables.

We have a Panasonic E80H recorder and bought some Ritek G03 discs. Quite a few of them give a "recovery" error when we try to burn them the first time. Ejecting them and trying again seems to solve the problem, but it's kind of a pain. I'd be curious to try Taiyo Yuden discs to see if they're any better, but I'd like to find a lower price if I can.

    Thanks!
