I want to convert a 2-part divx movie with 5-channel or ac3 sound to dvd.
I use Tmpgenc to convert to dvd compliant mpeg files, but when I play the audio file, there is nothing but static. The video file however is o.k.
In one of the topics I read that Tmpgenc can't handle ac3 sound and that it should be processed seperately.
I tried to rip the audio file with virtualdub, but then I got an error message saying someting about me not having the proper audio decompressor to convert this type of file. I have installed AC3filter and when playing the movie with Windows media player, the 5-channel sound works just fine.
I also tried to convert the audio with goldwave to 16-bit pcm stereo and joined this with the video file while authoring with Tmpgenc dvd author. I ended up with a dvd with sound, but it was out of sync.
Even if this had worked properly, I only had stereo sound instead of AC3.
A second problem occurred trying to create a dvd from a 2-part divx movie (one with stereo sound this time). I wanted to join the two divx files into one large file before converting to mpeg-2. I tried virtualdub, but this didn't work because the two parts had different bitrates.
Then I clipped the two parts while converting with Tmpgenc, so they didn't overlap. After that, I loaded both parts into Tmpgenc dvd author and created one set of .vob, .bup and .ifo files. When playing the movie on my computer (using media player or power dvd) this looked just fine, but after burning it to dvd, the movie stopped for about a second at the joining point. Despite the fact that the transition occured somewhere halfway the third .vob file, my standalone recognised it to be 2 seperate movie files. Also the second part seemed a bit choppy, as if there were some frames missing. Sound however was o.k. and in sync during the whole movie. Picture quality was also o.k.
Can anyone out there tell me in understandable english how to tackle these problems and which programs to use?
