  1. Hello,
    I have a question,
Ive recorded a tv show that longs 1hr 40 min...I ve redorded it in mpeg2 in order to write it to a dvd-r. Its size is 4.4 GB, so I bought a 4.7 GB DVD-R to recorded on it.
The point is that it wont let me, when i drag my mpeg file into the 4.7 GB DVD-R, it says that the disk is full and I cant recorded it. So I cut some mpeg files from the recording event, and it says that only can fit in the 4.7 GB disk, just 3.6 GB that is equal to 1hr 10 min.
Could anybody tell me how can I fit 1hr 40 min into a dvd-r disk, the case of the disk says it is to record SP 2 hrs video and 4.7 GB while I can just fit 3.6 GB that are 1hr 10 min.? I didnt want to compress the mpeg file, because I am affraid it will lose video resolution.

    thank you
    Laura

Despite what they say on the label, DVD discs can only hold 4.38 Gigs

I don't understand that 3.6 GB part. :c* But you can use a bitrate calculator (in TOOLS on the left) for next time to come closer.

For now, if it's too big, you will have to shrink it. You could author the DVD to your harddrive, then use DVDShrink to get it down to size to fit.

If it is just barely oversized, I wouldn't think you'd lose much quality at all.

It's that or start over and reencode at a lower bitrate /lesser quality any way.

Also - don't know if that's what you really meant - but you can not just drag an mpg file to a disc to make a DVD. You must AUTHOR it.

    Good luck :c)

    And welcome to the forum.

In my experience, the file size must be between 4.2 and 4.3 GB. Use the calculator and check what bitrate you need to use to encode it.

  4. I noticed you said you recorded in mpeg2. Mpeg2 is how the video portion of a dvd is done. How did you record the audio? Many common programs like MyDVD 4 create dvd-compliant audio by transcoding the audio to PCM. PCM files are big. If your video is 3.6 GB don't be surprised if the PCM audio is 800 MB.
