    Hello,

Thanks for all ya'lls help with capture and editing software to use with my new ADVC-100.

Most of what I am currently capturing and converting is music related so i will be converting and burning to DVD with PCM audio for those.

I will however be capturing and converting some TV programing soon as well(episodes of 24, Carnivale etc.) and would like to convert the captured audio to AC3 for burning to DVD. Of course for now it will just be stereo audio so 5.1 isn't necessary for now. What is a good, easy inexpensive app. for converting to AC3?

I noticed that nero lists DD AC-3 5.1 conversion as a future feature on NeroVision Express 2. Does it currently provide stereo AC-3 conversion?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  3. Yes, BeSweet is your best bet. There is a guide on using it for exactly this purpose somewhere on this site...

In the past I've heard people complain about BeSweet/ac3enc producing distorted audio and non-compliant streams under some conditions...does anyone know if this is still the case?

  6. Good question.

I made the decision to purchase Sony [formerly Sonic Foundries] Vegas 4+DVD the bundle includes an ac3 encoder.

I had used besweet and followed the excellent guide provided by lordsmurf. The ac3 sound track played on my panasonic set top dvd player and failed to play on my portable koss, an oritron, and pioneer player.

I realized that if I am going to spend the time to produce a disc which I would like to share with friends and family, I need to acquire a reliable dolby licensed ac3 encoder.

You may wish to surf the net and see if a licensed dolby plug-in exists for your software. Surcode makes a two channel ac3 plug-in that works with Adobe Premier 6.0 and 6.5 for $150. DVDit Pro dvd authoring software contains an ac3 encoder and does a very nice job authoring dvds.

    Regards

    John

my favorite program to use for AC3 is Vegas 4. unlike BeSweet, Vegas' AC3s are Dolby Certified.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

I've thought about getting Vegas+DVD myself. Can anyone comment on the licensing? I'd hate to spend $500+ on something only to find out that it has some "product activation" spyware crap in it that is going to freak out and refuse to run every time I upgrade my hard drive or CPU, or reinstall the OS, like Windows XP does. Does it lock itself to the hardware in any way?

    Sometimes, sometimes not.

I use it primarily. If it gives problems, then I use DVDit! PE
