I am a little confused with my Panny RP56. I turn to page in the manual and it states at the bottom what discs that player DOES NOT play. It seems almost of the dvd formats are not supported. Here on this site however I looked it up in the Players section and everyone under the sun is able to play all the formats.
I have been having problems playing them on this machine. The only I have gotten to work so far is the +RW format. I used Fuji +RW for that. The fuji +Rs don't work but make nice coasters. I then went out and got -Rs to try and they make nice coasters too. They were Memorex. They will play on my brother in laws player but not my Panny RP56. I heard it may be the media I am using but when you read the manual it almost makes it sound like the player can't handle these. Can someone verify this for me?

Hello Scott
Memorex DVD-R media is not too highly regarded. Try a really high end DVD-R disc like the 10-pack of MAXEL or the 10-pack of FUJI discs that you can often find at a place like BEST BUY etc.
You might also try to change the bitsetting of your DVD+R discs to DVD-ROM but I don't know what burner you have so I don't know if that is an option for you or not.

Sory I just looked at your profile and noticed that you have the Lite-On LDW-411S DVD burner.
My understanding ... and you should double check this ... but my understanding is that this DVD burner cannot do the bitsetting trick.
That is something that MIGHT make a difference.

What is the bitsetting trick that you are talking about? Something in the burning process? Thanks again for the responses.

So when you change it from one to the other they call that bitsetting
If you change it to DVD-ROM that makes it more compatable and there are players that will only play DVD+R discs when the bitsetting is set to DVD-ROM
For the most part though it can only be down with DVD+R/RW drives only ... not combo -R/RW +R/RW drives.
The program DVDInfoPro can do it IF your DVD burnre is capable of it.
