I dont know whats going on here. I have a toshiba SD-1600 standalone. and a memorex 2.4x dvd+rw/r drive. I finaly a few months ago figured out the right procedure to getting dvdr disks to play on my standalone toshiba. using nero, dvd-rom udf and book-type dvd-rom. it was working without any problems.. now all of a sudden im trying to burn my dvdrs the same way i always have, and its not working.. I use tmpgenc dvd author for authoring, tmpgenc plus for mpeg2 encoding when needed. the format i do for mpeg2 and such is always the same sense i got it to work.. same with the authoring ain tmpgenc dvd author. I dont understand it.. am i missing something on my pc that i use to have for nero? does the new nero 6.0.0.19 update for nero 6 mess up the old burning method? or could it just be nero 6 itself? all i know is ive tried alot ofdiffrent formats burning wise for this dvdplayer and this seems to be the only way that works... til now.. i need help O_o

I can offer you some sympathy.... but thats about it. I own a Toshiba 1600 and 1700 and frankly, they are just too old to play your back up DVDs. After spending the summer figuring out the right combination of media, writer, and software, I had figured out everything I needed to know to play my backups on both my 1600 and 1700. I was using 2.4x DVD+R (unlabeled... maybe memorex?) and they were working fine when writing with a 2.4x writer and Nero 5.5.10
I decided to sup-up my syetem and it backfired. I got a Pioneer A-06 writer, Nero 6 and Roxio 6 and Memorex 4x DVD+R's. Now they will not play on the Toshiba's but work fine on my roomate's Sony player. I personally think its the player. However, the Toshibas do play some very cheap Optodisc 1x DVD-RWs. Its an oddity.
Oddly enough, my roomate uses the same media and programs as me on Windows XP but with an older HP 200i writer and his play perfectly on the Toshibas.
For anyone having problems with backing up their DVD's, I offer this bit of advice, whether new to everything or not.
DVD Shrink (2.3 or 3.0 beta 5) to Rip
Roxio 6 to write (Nero 6 gives many problems however I loved 5.5.10)
Pioneer A-06 writer (pretty cheap now, dual format, supports many types of media. 2 coasters out of 50 and im pretty sure it was user error.)
Make sure you're playing on a newer (less than 2 yrs) player.
Media really depends where you can find good deals, but memorex $x DVD+R have been fantastic. Take about 14 min on the A-06 -
heh matter of fact dude, after i posted this reply i decided to try dvd-video format once again with dvd-rom booktype.. it worked LOL. strange, use to only work with udf now its only dvd-video. oh well atleast it works! my guess is it has to do with the diffrence from, nero5 to 6 cause my other dvd udf burns i did back then still work on the player. just not the new ones im trying cept the dvd-video. i use tmpgenc dvd author for authoring. and nero 6 with book type dvd-rom setting checked in the burn tab and the relax iso restrictions unchecked ( and under disk info in the recorder tab of nero i have disk book type set to dvd-rom not dvd+r or dvd+rw) seems to work perfect with the toshiba SD 1600. if not i use to use dvd-rom (UDF) with no iso or joliet restrictions, and of course burn tab with booktype dvd-rom checked. also never use the compatibility check box that is for xbox. doesnt work. i bet you one of those will work for you. if your VIDEO_TS compilation is set correctly.
