I currently have an ATI-AIW 7500 video card, with an extended desktop setup (extends the desktop across 2 monitors). I use the output for the extended desktop/ 2nd display to display on my TV set, and I play video files/movies on that output for watching on my TV. I use the ATI remote control for controling the program(s) on the 2nd monitor/TV. I normally use several video players (but MOSTLY ZoomPlayer), depending on the file type that I am watching.

my problem, which is apparently a common problem for non-Windows Media Center equiped, is that the desktop, text, and normal PC display is difficult if not impossible to view on the TV, especially at any distance. Also I would like to have 1 program (or a small choice of programs) for the TV display - ie I already use internet explorer, explorer, the various video players, the TV listing/Program Guide display, etc. I am looking basically for an interface, or small choice of interfaces, to display CLEARLY on the screen similar to Windows media Center (w/o having WEM) that wuld be able to control my options and applications.

Any options and suggestions would be appreciated.

The only thing i can suggest is to lower your resolution for tv display. Tv's are much lower resolution that pc monitors causing an output from you pc in high resolution look like crap on a low resolution tv. If your pc is set up to send to a lower resolution your final picture on your tv will look better. I would suggest you try 640x480 because that is the lowest most video cards now days go in the windows interface and is close to the 525 lines of resolution that tv's theoretically have.
