  1. Hello,
I have a problem. altho I have been buring VCD's for over a year with NO problems once so ever ! But, until recently, I have ripped a few DVD's and use DVD2AVI to convert my VOB's, and I also tried FlaskMpeg. doesn't make any difference to which software I use, I get the SAME result.

After converting to .avi, I play it to see how it comes out, well, WMP9 (Windows Media Player 9) always tells me the file is "Unsupported" and when I go to check the .avi with "Gspot"....It tells me that it is a "Invalid .Avi"....how can that be ?

I am using divx 5.? to encode. Until I install a different codec, for opendml, I have had this trouble, I no longer have that codec installed and still having frits....

Someone, please help me...it is driving me mad !!!!

Quick question...why are you converting to avi? Unless I misunderstood, you're ripping dvds to vcds(right?)...so why go out of your way to convert to avi and then convert to mpg when you can do it directly?

  3. Just load the project files created in dvd2avi into tmpeg and convert to vcd using one of the vcd templates, i also wonder why you may want to convert to avi in the middle of the proccess????
I could dance with you till the cows came home..... on second thoughts i'd rather dance with the cows till you came home.

  4. another repeat, sounds like your saving as avi rather than saving as d2v project and encoding with that directly to mpg, however, if there was a reason to rip to avi, then gordian knot is a very useful set of programs that makes it relatively easy to convert to avi.

For Ripping DVDs to AVIs (ie backing up my movie collection on divx) I like DVD Decrypter. I can select the 'main movie' vob, set it for no file splitting, and rip the vob to hdd pretty quick.

Once the 1 piece vob is on hdd I use DrDivX (in advanced mode) and convert that vob to DivX 5.1Pro to fit on a CDR.

You'll need AC3Filter so you can increase the 'Gain' and 'Voice' volumes of the AC3 stream. (read about the bigfix at divx.com)

That's it.... Encode the video and burn to CD.

Oh yea, Ecuador's AVI Bitrate Calculator is a pretty neat little tool with this type of project too.

P.S. Uninstall your DIvX codec then install Dr Divx (5.1pro supplied). Also, by ripping the vob to hdd then converting to divx its a far better deal. Converting from the dvd can lead to problems sometimes.

That one program may of hosed your system. You might need to reinstall your codec pack and/or WMP9(?) I don't know.

    Good luck.

  6. OK,
One prob. I do not like "adware" software, that's why I do not like using Divx 5.? but anyhoo... Here's what I do in force of habit...

    1. Rip the DVD with Smartripper.
    2. Convert the .VOB's with DVD2AVI/FlaskMpeg to .AVI
    3. Then convert the .avi to .mpg with Tmpgenc
    4. Split the movie...then i am force to re-encode the seperate halves.
    5. use Nero to Burn the VCD's.

So, Ever since that 1 program, I could never able to encode ever since. I used the Dr Divx trial. worked Ok, But still had some pixelation probs every now and then.

So, i will uninstall the divx and use gordian and see how that works !!

    Thanks so much y'all !!!
