Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway...in tmpgenc, do you use the extracted wav file as the audio source not the original audio from the file?

But my question was, when you get to the second screen of tmpgenc and it asks you for audio and video, do you use the avi for the video source and the wav for the audio source? I ask because I remember helping someone who extracted the audio but forgot to include it in the process.

Check your file with Gspot, the audio is probably AC3. Extract the AC3 to wav with Goldwave, just load the avi and then save.

To the author of VirtualDub: When a user selects Audio -> Direct Stream Copy Save WAV, Please, somehow make the unaware aware of that the output is not a wav file, but the audio track in whatever shape it came in (with wav headers). I can't count the # of posts where people claims to have converted the audio to wav, when in fact they have just demuxed the audio track from the AVI...

  8. Hi mats

I have learn that now.. now i use VirtualdubMOD and there i chose Steams --> Steam list --> Rightclick on the file --> full compression mode.... then i get a much larger wav file.

    Is this correct?

    Tackar för hjälpen annars....

Yes, that's correct, even if I tend to do a direct stream copy, and then convert to wav from whatever format the audio is encoded as, with a dedicated tool.

By no means! If you get a file that's 'round 1 GB for your regular movie, it's probably OK.
The thing is, that if you select direct stream copy under Audio, and then save wav, you're not getting a wav, even if VirtualDub adds a ".wav" extension. It's still MP3 or AC3 or whatever audio format is in the AVI, and has to be properly renamed with the correct extension, and converted to wav with the correct tool.
This can be done in VirtualDub too, by setting Audio -> Full Processing, and then No compression under "Compression..." if VirtualDub likes the audio track in the AVI.
