((I was asked to post this hear. I hope it helps others here on there best decisions))
    =========================================

Hey guys. I am a newbie and before I decide to post I have read, read, and read!! And alot more of it.

But I just wanted to share a topic with all of the guys here that has blamed there home dvd players that either locked up, freeze and then plays or just plays fine until it get's closer to the end and just locks up.
If you had these symptoms while playing DVD - or + R's then I got the cure!!

I own 2 dvd players which are the Daewoo 5700 which has been flashed to become regionfree (PAL and NTSC formats) and also macrovision disable.
And my other dvd player which is a Toshiba SD3750 (progressive scan).

With these 2 players I have attempted to use both DVD -/+ R's using DVDxCopy and I had these symptoms above and the SD3750 which has claimed it is able to play dvd-r's

well for my sake NOT!!! It did play,, but locked up during the end of the flick.

So I did a lot of reading and I did use differnt dvd media brands. Still same issues with both my dvd players. So I decided to play my backup dvd movies on my PC dvd player and which I have to say it has been successful.

What was my cure from getting away from the issues I had above. I went out and bought a freggin new dvd player. Yes I got the Yamaha DVS5650 progressive scan player. And was the issues above cured? Hell yes!!!

I read it all about possibable bad media, PC getting to HOT and not burning correctly to dvd player not compatable . Its the dvd player all!!

Here is what I use to burn my movies:

    DvDxCopy Express.

DvD media I used from Cheapo = CompUSA DvD-R, Liquid Video 2X dvd-r and last and most expensive media I have purchase Memorex dvd+r (4x) and all did a great job in my new dvd player.

As for my other 2 dvd players. They sit around and play MP3s or dvd rentals. And if I am lazy and not want to be in the theater room to play regionfree dvds... then I use the Daewoo 5700.

So all in all guys,,, before spending a $hi$ load of money on dvd media or trying to update your drivers,,,, pa pa please try a new dvd player that claims by spec by the manufacture that will play the format you need. And the Yamaha did it for me.

Thanks for reading. And glad I can be of some assistance

  2. I'm sure your post will start a war

Ya I know players "CAN" be the problem sometimes. But how would you explain some disks working and some not working in the same player then??

Ya, if it is always the same disk that does not play correctly but 12 others do play perfect, it is NOT the player!! Or would the junk player just have a memory that says hey that's so and so movie, I won't play that one and keep it in memory for the next time you try it

Yes, sometimes it's a player. I had a pickey DP312 by norcent $40, it didn't play alot of my disks correctly and even had a clicking tick sound when playing comercail DVDs. About half my disks worked in it, half gave a wrong disk error and would do nothing, and a Ritek skipped. It went back to wallmart!
All disks played perfect in the Norcent DP300 though!

On the other hand I have tried many of my disks in a ALEGRO combo player and almost ALL worked perfect, but a couple would not load at all!

It has to do with the way the disks were burned for the most part!
When mine don't work, it is the ones burned with NERO that don't work and as far as I can tell ALL the ones burned with Tmpgenc DVD author DO work!
As for jumps jerks and skips, I don't normally have those problems on any DVD players I've tested on, either the disks work or they don't.
But I rarely ever burn over 4gig to a disk either.

Well I have the same burned dvd-r's that did not play correct in my other 2 dvd players and then I get a new dvd player and wala.... all disks work.

So I might say I am happy.

Hope others that do this will feel the same afterwards.

  4. Yep, that's great all your disks are playing now in your new player.
But what I am saying is there is often something wrong with the disks or the way you burned them also that causes some players to NOT play them.
You can't expect everyone to run out and buy a new player just because you give them a disk you made

Like the guys doing wedding disks, kids ball games, peoples vacations, etc... those disks have to work, and telling the client go buy a new player won't cut it!

Like I said above, ALL my disks work perfect in my DP300, but some don't work in some other players, it has to do with how I burned them. The correct ones play in everything and the wrong ones play in most but not all players. So I have to start burning them all correctly, someday I may not have this DP300 anymore, then what?

Also this DP300 will even Play a plain mpeg 1 or 2 file without even being authored to a DVD! I can just dump a bunch of mpg movies to a CD or DVD and the DP300 makes it's own menu to show what movies are there and plays them perfect long as they are under 1 or 2 gigs, forgot which.
But just because this player plays raw mpeg files fine does not mean I made the DVD correctly and it will play in other players! IT WON'T play in most other players. If a disk of raw mpgs did play in all players we wouldn't even have to author a disk! Just capture to a file and burn to disk and be done with it, but it doesn't work that way with most players I've seen.

Could be your disks are done right on good media and your other 2 players just won't play that disk format or are too old to play any recordable, or just junk?? OR you might not have burned your disks correctly and you have a New player like my Norcent DP300 and it will play anything you can put onto a disk and not care.

I would think your disks aren't quite right for some reason and would test future disks in the players you have that don't play them now. Try different things till you get them right.
Someday you might want to do original movies like for gifts or for hire and telling someone to buy a new player won't be an option!

Tmpgenc DVD author has a built in burner, free demo, fully working program for 30 days. So far I never had a disk fail I burned with it.
Also of course make sure your files are DVD compliant, if not they could fail also. Check if your old players are supposed to play -R disks, I think most will. Then buy a ritek disk, or for real cheap I use leda/princo 1x disks I got a shop4tek. Burn a 4 gig movie or less for testing.

If all else fails, pm me your address and I'll mail you one of my junk working disks like the kids ball game or a play (original content stuff).
I have a few that work great in any player so far, that I made fast, but quality was crap so I re-did the capture and made new disks. I could send you one of those

I respect your posts, but I have to disagree with what you said above. There is no such thing as a disc that will play in EVERYTHING. As I posted last week, I was able to find a standalone that specifically didn't like Riteks. If there was a player that played EVERYTHING correctly, I'm sure that at least most, if not all of the people on this board would buy it, as we all know much more than the average consumer about DVD discs and players. There IS such a thing as high compatibility, and that is why MANY of the people that frequent this board buy Riteks, as they are known for being highly compatible with more standalones than just about any other DVD disc out there. But even Riteks have their limits. No player is 100% compatible with discs, and no disc is 100% compatible with players.

    Hi everyone.

Well I had some voodoo crap come up either on dvdXcopy errors or my burner.

The media I been using with dvdxcopy Xpress was majority of cheapO CompUSA 1x dvd-r and the Liquid Video 2X and did fine and great with dvdXcopyX.

I then went out on Tuesday and got the Memorex Dvd+r's 4X ... and since my dvd burner is 4x I said why not.

Well when I attept to use the 4x dvd+r's all 12 out of the new 25 pack failed. I then copy the same movie with my ElCheapO's 2 brand dvds and worked. I said hummmm (my dvd burner is dual formats so it suppose to do both +/- DvD R's and RW's).

I went to dvdXcopy forum and read there... I see peps there had SCSI failer and not comply messages and some got theres working again when then reformatted.

So off I go,, Format C: --------> reinstall everything with Win XP-PRO OS and all loooked great and running. Played my DvD burner.. movies play fine on WinDVD.
Then off I go to use DvDxCopy GOld and Xpress and when I put the dvd movie I want to copy it took no more then 12 min to get all files and asked me to put my blank dvd media disk in. So I do. I click the START icon on DvDXcopy........... a error. Says something like" Cannot find DvD burner.. all failed (something like that). But anyways... I think my dvd burner took a big $hit on me.

I have the Digital Research dvd burner. I hear alot of peps say they are $hit.

So I am wondering if all this time it was my burner giving me crap.

I even turned attept to use my Pinnecal instant/dvd software and burn a CD-R disk. It acted like it copied some files from my C: ..... but it did not take more then 35 sec to supposively burn a 603 Mb of stuff. So after it said burn complete. I go to my dvd burner rom drive and (which is same as my cd rom/cd-rw drive) and I explorer the CD and everything was there AS for the FILES. I double click the files... noting in any of them. So I guess it has to be my burner.
    This really sucks.
Formated my hardDrive and all this time DvD-burner crapped out on me

    sad.

  8. I am X

I respect your posts, but I have to disagree with what you said above. There is no such thing as a disc that will play in EVERYTHING.
Thanks, and I disagree with what you think I said too
Perhaps I wrote it wrong. Meant one thing but said another??
I agree with you, There is no such thing as a disc that will play in EVERYTHING. However of course there are disks that come closer than others like you said. Riteks seem to be well liked.

SO far for me, all MY disks work in MY player. A few do not work in other players, but I have tracked that down as those non working disks being burned the same way with each other, but not the same way as the ones that do work. So for me, it seems to be burning problems so far!
Since I started burning all the same way I have not had a problem yet.

I did have that junk player DP312 that did not want to play anything though! And was poor quality playing a comercail DVD and clicked! Maybe it was dropped off the back of a truck and damaged before I bought it?? Who Knows, but that one I would not have kept even for just playing store bought or rental disks either!!

So far though as I said, the Norcent DP300 does play everything I tried, even non-DVD DVD's. Though I am sure sometime I will find something it won't play, so far I have not! I will cry alot if it blowsup!

I haven't burned very many types of disks yet, just alot of cheapo leda/princo disks at 1x and a few Ritek 4x printables. Testing so far consists of about 5 set top player brands, one E50 set top recorder, and one PS2.
The results for me so far are all the ones that normally work, do work on everything, and the ones that don't always work are inconsistant. Some do and some don't on different players. I think only one disk fails on everything it was tried on so far, exept my player, and it does work then.

And I narrowed those down to "I think" being my earlier burns using Nero video DVD and most likely it was UDF 1.05 not UDF 1.02 and I have read alot of people had problems with that with earlier Nero.
Also I think the one disk that rarely if ever plays on anything else might have been burned as a DATA disk, not sure. I do need to download those programs that show such things and see for sure!

I did study very hard before buying the DP300, almost everyone seemed to be looking for them at that time also! I found one and it has lived up to all the claims I read about it! Unfortunately mine does not have a macrovision hack, wrong serial number, though I should look agian, been a few months (about 8).

There is no perfect player, disk, burner etc... or like you said, we would all have it! But many are better than others of course. And my point really was that you can't give someone a disk then tell them to go buy a new player to use it! You got to do them right, not find a player that will put up with mistakes. I think He just posted his burner died, perhaps that was his problem with his other disks not working on the first two players and the new one was just less pickey like my DP300??
Heck maybe his new one is a DP300??

And for refference, I'd buy another DP300 if I could find one, but I want something else instead too! The DP300 works too well for me! How can I tell if my disks are good if the player will play bad disks correctly?? That is great for me at home that it plays anything, but if I make disk for others (like for hire) then I need to know the disk will play on pickey players too. Charging $15 -$20 to make a disk, then telling the client go buy a new player IS NOT an option!

I don't do any for hire now, but I do some for free (non-profit group), and YUCK make VHS for them too!
