Ok this is wierd, several friends of mine and myself use DVDshrink to backup a film to HDD, then burn with Nero, both 5.x and 6.
Most of the time these work perfectly but at seemingly random times we produce a disk which will not allow fast forwarding on a standalone player, and if you skip forward on a computer it crashes the DVD player software.
These disks cannot then be copied, DVDshrink errors when reading them, even copying the files with explorer gives errors.
If left to play, they will play through without problems!
Each of us has experienced the same problem and the only common factors are DVDshrink and Nero - although it's often different versions of both programs involved.

I've had a search of the forums but can't see any posts that relate to this, although people have reported similar problems with other software being used to transfer film to HDD.

We use different media - usually good quality.
All the computers are physically different, but we're all running XP.

Has anyone else had this happen?
Does anyone have any idea what might cause this?

I also have encountered certain copies that can't be fast forwarded, tho none of them locked my system up. But it's not that important to me, so I never put much thought into why.

On the copying issue.....you mentioned that once your player crashes upon trying to fast forward, you can no longer copy these disks.

The ripping function in DVD Shrink was designed to rip ENCRYPTED DVD's, not UNencrypted DVD's. Thats why it boogers up when u try to rip the copy.

All you have to do to copy a copy is:

    1) Open the DVD up in explorer and drag all the files that are in the VIDEO_TS folder onto your HD, then burn them onto a disk in Nero using the DVD-Video mode. You report this can't be done, but the only thing that would prevent this would be a damaged disk. Once the encryption is removed, it's merely a disk with some files on it. If your file moving attempt gives you errors, that sounds like an XP or hardware issue to me.

    OR

    2) Use the copy disk function in Nero.

    Either way works.
