  1. What do you guys think ? I recently purchased a real magic hollywood plus and conversion time is about the same from dvd to mpeg 1. celeron 900@1162 512 ram ATA 100 HD's. Should a hardware decoder perform better ?

    Uh... the Hollywood Plus card is meant to play DVDs back for you on your monitor, or out to your TV. It doesn't do anything else for you except make MPEG-1/MPEG-2 look real good, and not use your processor to do it. It is not a hardware transcoder board or anything like that... So if you have that card, and you encode MPEG, the encode performance and speed will not be affected by the card's presence in your system. Like I said before, all it does is let you watch DVDs.
