I'm mainly trying to learn about going from VHS --> DVD. And this forum has been a huge help. I've still learning the tools but its going well.

Anyone know if any guides exist for converting Digital Video to some form of file for web/online use? I'm guessing its just a highly compressed MPG or AVI. But I'm looking for some guidelines on codecs, sizes, etc.

Baldrick's done a Guide for just about anything to Divx https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm

But lots of other choices - quicktime, asf, wmv, flash, real, etc.

You'd need to choose something before someone could point you in the right direction.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

I got this from the PocketTv web site. It's guidelines for converting videos for use on Pocket PC's, but it's also useful for posting to web.

I use TMPGEnc to convert videos using these guidelines.
