Hello , yes Iam a newbe. I just hooked up a ATI 9000 pro capture card to my pc and everything works ok. One particular movie I own will not capture( sound ok video looping). I thought the problem was Macrovision
so I played it throgh an old vcr that i know is macro free. I copied the tape to the old vcr and it still will not capture. I am not asking how to hack MACROVISION , I just want to know 2 things
1) is it a macrovision problem
2) even though I play the tape on a unit that is MACROVISION free
the capture card will still see that it is encoded with macro and enable it

Most likely it's macrovision. This device will remove it but it's not cheap.

You assume that Macrovision is part of the VHS player and not embedded in the tape.

www.lordsmurf.com might help ya. Look under "Capturing AVI with ATI Cards" in the Microvision paragraph.
Good luck.
