  1. Anyone in here have any experience with the LG-4040b drive? I need to be able to burn dvd-ram disks on my panasonic e80 and re-author them on my pc, then burn them to either a dvd-r or dvd+r disk, whichever will work best in old or new standalone players.

The disks I've burned play fine in my new standalone player as well as in my panny recorder. But, some of my disks won't play in older dvd players. I'm thinking about getting a pc dvd burner so I can create my disk on the Panny on a dvd-ram, put 'em in the pc burner, re-author them and then HOPEFULLY they'll play in whatever player I put it in, new or old, pc or standalone. Am I crazy in expecting this to be possible? I know some older players work better playing dvd-r and others better with dvd+r, so I need a dual format drive. Are their any drives besides the LG 4040b that's dual format that can also read dvd-ram, can burn consistently playable disks and can do so at 4x?

I want to be able to use my dvd-ram b/c otherwise, going from stand alone recorder to pc to dvd would require 2 disks for each burn rather than the dvd-ram and a dvd-/+r.

    Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

That's cross posting - against forum rules. You could have just edited your original thread.

Now, can you answer my question???

Maybe :c* You can not read your Panny discs with your DVDrom drive? I think that's what most users do. And many recommend not to use a burner to rip from.

It's impossible to guarantee making all discs playable in all players. Too many factors. Best you can hope for is the right combination of Media (+ - and brand), Writer and Authoring process for success in the highest % of players.

There are 81 comments for your writer you're considering, with reports on what media has worked best & worst.

You can help the Mods by going to your original post and changing it to "please delete" or something, so they know it was an honest mistake. Only Mods can lock or delete posts.

Now, can you answer my question???
That sounded pretty cheeky. :c* I've been through your threads. It's not the first time you cross-posted or bumped your own threads to try and get answers. All this is voluntary, by everyone. A little co-operation goes a long way.

I'm not gonna get into a pissing contest with you over YOUR interpretation in this or any of my posts. It was an honest mistake as I considered my posts to be 2 seperate subjects, deserving of seperate threads. Secondly, I don't consider ANY of my posts to be cross-posted nor do I do any of what you're referring to as "bumping my threads" intentionally. Obviously you have a lot more time to spend in a forum than do I. When I go there, I go to ask a question or to help others rather than spend time going through every posts someone has made to get some kind of pattern. Every forum has someone like you and I knew it would surface in this one eventually. From a visitor standpoint and someone new to all of this stuff, as opposed to someone that may have more experience, I recommend in the future when someone asks a direct question, taht you give them a direct response. See, newer folks have less of an idea of what to search for to find their answer as someone that has been doing this longer. Rather than saying there are 81 posts you can look through, it may be more efficient for to just respond with the answer or not responed at all.

In response to what info you DID provide, I've read posts about the LG as well as about the e80, every posts I can find actually and it was a great number of them. It was from these posts that I was able to get to the info I have on the LG now. Based on what I read, I wanted to ask a simple direct question that would hopefully generate the answer I need to make my decision. Again that is, is there another or better drive than the LG that will read DVD-RAM and is my proposed idea of how to solve my problem reasonable or would I not get enough better results to justify spending the money to buy a pc burner?

  6. As you can see in my Sig below I have the Panasonic E50 and the LG 4040B. I have used the E50 to burn a movie to RAM and then used the 4040B to transfer the movie the HDD and used TMPEncDVD to author a menu for the movie and burned it to DVD+RW as a test and it worked in all of the players I own:

    Panasonic E50
    Panasonic RP82
    Panasonic RV31
    Pioneer DV-414

    Relatives Players:
    Pioneer DV-333
Sony DVD (Dont know the make)

  7. You can also use the Toshiba SD-M1712. I use it to transfer movie on dvd-ram I record from my E30 to my pc. It is about $40.
