anybody out there that uses the big 3 I would apperciate your help. i keep getting the above error and dont know how to fix it. i read somewhere about docce4u and it expecting a different file name. but not sure if that applys to me. im using docc34u 1.0.1.5 and cce 2.50. i checked and when i look for the mpv of that pgc there isnt one. if you need to see a log just tell me and i will post it but there all really long so i dont want to post it until i know which one to post. so any ideas one what i can do or what to look at first would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

well posting the entire error would be nice. It's tough to get help with something when you didn't even post what the error was. I'm sure you meant to post it..but if you look at the title..it was cut off at "HAS"....so start with what the actual error is.
Did the error say anything about subs across scene boundry? Usually that's a warning.... or about a delay of 0.4 seconds? -
sorry bout that i wasnt paying attention. there error was a "has place holder." yes i have recieved the cross boundary warnings but that wasnt the error that was stopping it from working. then i re encoded everything without subs and the only error i recieved was the one above about has place holder. thanks for the responces.

That placeholder is usually there when Scenarist can't find the file it is looking for. This has happened to me a few times....Scenarist is looking for specific files..and they have to be that way exactly or it won't import them. I'm not sure what methods you are using for your DVDR's...are you using Reauthorist?
Either way..the first thing you need to check is that the file is correctly an ".MPV" OR ".M2V" file. If the file did NOT have pulldown run on it...it should be a .MPV file....if you ran pulldown on the file,...then it will be an .M2V file. This has happened to me on two occasions..once when I realized that "DVD2DVDR" changes the output extension of CCE from .MPV to .M2V.
I also realized that I hadn't run pulldown on a file....I thought I did...but realized I didn't afterwards...and that's why I got the placeholder errors.
So in short...make sure that if the file is supposed to have pulldown run on it...it does...and that the extension is .M2V NOT .MPV...and vice versa...if its an interlaced source and you encoded it....the output extension should be .MPV. Try changing the extension or extensions of the files in question and see if Scenarist imports them correctly. -
Edit: defense beat me to it.
This is a bug that lies somewhere in the process that still hasn't been solved. assets occasionally are randomly not included in the DoCCE encoding stage. The way the authoring side of things works is, ReAuthorist writes the Scenarist script just using information from the IFO's. It assumes that all the assets it authors will actually be in the dir it is reading from. If any asset is not there, Scenarist inserts a place holder. So, it seems you answered your own question. There are PGC's authored in Scenarist for which no footage has been loaded, because it was never placed in your asset directory. You need to manually re-encode these files, you can just manually load them into DoCCE of course, and then you need to put them into your directory where all the other assets are stored. You also need to ensure that the naming scheme on these files matches the others. Then just reload your script into Scenarist and compile. -
ok so i took a look for the m2v file and it was there. there is no mpv file but if i understand you correctly it should only be there if it is doing a pull down. and i didnt think it was. also scenarist when looking at the track calls it a mpv. so maybe it is. i will try what you said adam and reencode it manual. thanks for all the help, ill tell you if it worked.

Ok so heres what i did, i opened docce4u and used it to re-encode the vts_03, it gave me a when it was done i had an .mpv and a .m2v now when i put both of those in the folder vts_03 then i reopened scenarist and loaded the file from project manager(was i supposed to start a new one sorry if i was) so after that i tried to create the dvd and here is the error that i get from it. this is the error that i have always gotten. please help. if you need any of the log files let me know. please tell me what the name of it usually is called and what part i should post because they look long and i dont think you want to search through it all. thanks for the help. also i noticed that it created two m2v files here is a list of all the files i have for this pgc:
VTS__03_P01-80-192K-[0ms]-ch2English.AC3
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.AVS
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.d2v
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.ecl
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.M2V
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.mpv
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.mpv.m2v
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.MPV.M2V.vif
VTS__03_P01.4~3_1.vaf
hope this helps
here is the error i get:
Info
Info Creating DVD Files
Error The track<VTS_03_PGC_01> has place holder.
Error PreCheck From DB failed
Error DVD files could not be created
P.S. before i re-encode the whole thing the first time i left some subs in and kept recieving the cross boundary warning thing. i was just wondering if i would have left them in would they have just not worked, worked wrong, or screwed up the dvd. thanks again for the help. -
ok, now that you have all those files what you need to do in Scenarist is right click on the little place holder icon and then click on the option for it to find and load the file from your directory

thanks for all the help. i got the file to load but it gave me another error i tried to load the m2v file the way jarvis said to and i got a warning saying that the file was a different duration. so i tried to load the other file, mpv and it said "Error : Frame rate (1 = 24 000+1001(23.976)) is wrong." so i went back an loaded the m2v file and it is making the dvd right now so i dont know what is going to happen. Does anybody know how this is going to screw it up. Also when i was trying different things to figure out what happened i noticed that when i used reauthorist and went to encode when it opened docce4u and loaded all the files to be encoded it never loaded the one i kept getting errors with. does anybody know why it wouldnt load that one file. the box was always checked for it to be encoded but dont know why it wouldn't load it. So if anybody has any idea about what is going to happen if the duration thing will screw up the dvd, and also why that pgc wouldn't load from reauthorist to docce, i would be apperciative to know. thanks everybody.
-
I know exactly what you are talking about...I had the same non-loading problem with the newest version of DoCCE4U...so I switched to using BatchCCEWS and all is well again...
it could be a bug in the latest DoCCE4U...i'm not sure -
I was going to use BatchCCEWS but when reading about it i thought it would be easier to use docce. because i wouldn't have to load any files or anything. i didnt really understand what you were supposed to do to get batch to work with reauthorist, but i never really made a dvd before so maybe now i will understand what your supposed to do. Can you please tell me exactly what file i use or how i get batch to work with reauthorist or doitfast. cause i would like to try it on my next backup. thanks again.
P.S. I made the dvd and it seemed to work well there was a little problem with chapter points, because they didnt seem to be exact where they were supposed to be. i would get a small glimpse of the previous scene when forwarding to the next chapter. its not a big deal i figured it had something to do with the time being off on the one pgc that gave me problems. but if anybody has any suggestions about it i would like to here them. thanks. -

This is common when using the Big Three...I think there is a less then one second issue within' one of the proggy's..I read something about it. It really isn't a big deal..at least not to me...however, one movie I did had interlace at the fades/black scenes..like many do.....but when scanning through the chapters you'd get a jerky affect because of it...it was hitting right on the interlace/progressive scene shift....looked bad...so I IVTC'd it..and the problem was gone. That was a hybrid DVD...but for the most part....there's no reason to really worry about the chapters being a fraction of a second off. -
kamachi923,
the error with different durantion is solvable by importing the actual file into scenarist....then clicking on file.....and checking its end time.
You then go into the .SCP file and search for original time whatever it was.......(you should check this before hand) and change in the first video section the time to new time and then there will be one more time which is one frame longer which you need to change to new time + one frame.
Not sure if I explained it clearly or not but if you fiddle you should figure it out.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the help everybody. jnk76 ill be sure to try that as soon as i can. Well after getting it all to work and creating an image. there is one problem left. the image is to big. So i have to questions left one is, is it possible to copy a dummy vob and rename it to replace another vob. what i'm asking is the last pgc or vob is the trailer and because of its size it never was encode or added, except at the end. there was no dummy file created for it i believe because it was at the end. well i have other dummy files that connect to the same menu as the trailer so i was wondering if i could just copy one of those and rename it over the trailer vob. If thats not possible then is there any other fix. Also lastly i noticed when i was testing the movie, when i went to test the subtitle it was black so it was almost imposible to see. i was wondering if there is a way i can change the color of it. thanks for all the help.
-
I always look at the structure of the DVD before hand so if there are trailers I include them to be re-encoded or to be removed. By not selecting it at the beginning with DIFF4U which automatically removes vts sets smaller than your set value limits which I think is defaulted at 200mb or something like that. Since you have done the whole thing and it is too big......u can run it through IC7 and decrease the size of trailer that way.
No idea for subs as I never include them.

Of course, there are other possible causes for your problem.
It could be the "I stole a $35,000 program in order to pirate $15 movies" bug. But that's just a guess.

P.S. I know, I know. I can't "assume" that someone has pirated The Little Three. I'm being sarcastic, so you can all cope.
P.P.S. If, by some amazing chance, you DO have a legal copy of Scenarist, I bet the folks at Sonic will be REALLY responsive in fixing that bug, given that it does cost so darn much. -

I suppose I was a bit unfair. Movies cost more than $15 in other parts of the world.
