  1. I order a new batch of 100 disks every few months and it's always an uncomfortable time when I start testing the new batch in my Pioneer A04 burner.

When Riteks G03's where up to $1.30 apiece, I experimented with Optodisk and Dupez's (LeadData). I find the most frustrating thing with media is the inconsistency. One batch of 50 Opto's where great. A month later the next batch is pure junk and had to be returned. Same thing with Dupez's.

I use Kprobe to test all my burns and then play in my fussy DVD standalone. If Kprobe gives high PI/PO averages, the disk will likely have trouble.

For my most important burns, I use Ritek G03's. Kprobes scores have always been good for me. Average PI is often under 5, while a crappy Princo may be over 30.

Now my latest batch of G03's is the new Ridata disks with media code B...@....P..5..RITEKG..03. So far 90% of these disks have problems at the end of the disk. Kprobes shoot up to 60 or even 100 or more, but only at the end, or last 5 to 10%. A few disks come out perfect without the spike.

To verify it's not my burner, I switch back to what's left of my previous order of B...@....P..W......RITEKG..03. These are unbranded Riteks before the Ridata where available.

Every one of these come out perfect without exception down to the last byte of the disk. Typical Kprobe average PI's are under 5 and sometimes under 3 or even 2.

I've already returned a bad set of disks recently and I have little choice but to stick with these stinkers.

I wish manufacturers would be consistent. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it. I may have to start looking at 4x media in hopes of finding consistency. Of course I won't know if I find consistency until many months and several orders have passed. And as Ritek G03's have just taught me, even then they can switch and go bad at any time.

  3. It works with Liteon players also. I bought a Liteon HD166 in part to run Kprobe which is unlike any other utility I've ever seen. Utilities such as Nero's CD Speed or scan disk are not the same thing. Not even close.
