I have only just started in this DVD burning game (initially for back-up to large Photofolders - CD's too small) but have started to back up some movies and want to eventually, back up 8mm cine film (oh the ambition!)

I seem to have a conflict on my system that is baffling me. I have Win XP as my o/s, I have Nero 6 for burning and DVDXCOPY Xpress (ver3.0.5)for dvd back-up (fed up with my son eating the dvd boxes, letting him have the back-ups only). The problem is with playback in Nero showtime. I get a very choppy and slow playback and then video locks up . The same happens in Power DVD. Back-up discs have failed to be recognised in everything (inc Media player 9). However, when I remove DVDXCopy, I can playback in Power DVD with no problem (even the back-up discs that were not recognised before).

The question at the end of this long winded pre-amble is; Has anyone else suffered a similar problem and how did they get around it?

For info, my system is home built, I run an XP2400 on a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP Ultra M/board, 1Gb 2700DDR, Radeon 7500 graphics, , 80Gb WD HDD. I have an NEC 1300a as master with a Lite-On 48x24x48 CDRW as slave and a Lite-On 16X DVD ROM as slave to the HDD. Sound is through a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 card and Cambridge Soundworks Desktop theatre DTT2200.

    Thanks in advance

Not to change the subject, but I never put CD-ROM drives (or dvd drives) on the same ribbon cable as hard drives. There are very few controllers that can operate that way. Lordsmurf has a PCI IDE controller that allows such a hookup, but my experiences with onboard IDE controllers says this is not a good practice. Unless you're one of those fortunate ones like smurf, I'd change my setup.

    Good luck with your problem.

Have you tried updating DVDXCopy XPress to the latest version, which I believe is 3.20?

I am running Nero 6 and I have tried to upgrade to Version 3.2 of DVD Xcopy Xpress, but with no success! I'll give it another go later
