    Hi,

I've just created my first DVD with AC3 audio. The source was from a satellite recording and was in mpeg. I 've extracted the mp2 file with tmpgenc (toolame plugin), then I've converted it in AC3 using besweet. After all I've created the DVD with Tmpgenc DA.

It works fine when the output comes out from the AV Scart connection, so I can hear the audio using the TV speakers, but I can't hear anything through the amplifier (An Harman/Kardon connected with a optical fiber), even if the "Dolby Digital" light is on.

Someone of you has an advice???

    Thank you

  2. Your not really gaining much by converting the mp2 to ac3, unless your player doesnt support mp2 audio on a DVD, most do support it. But since its an MP2 its not surround sound, so converting to AC3 wont turn it into surround sound. I have my DVD player hooked up to a 6.1 surround sound receiver via optical, and I get audio on all speakers its stereo still, but sounds good. I dont even have to change anything on the receiver.

  3. maxlan,

Just a wild shot. Assuming your receiver's current audio setting works fine on commercial DVD's, try playing the disc in STEREO instead of Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital 5.1.

I've done this conversion because I can't hear the mpeg audio through the amplifier. Through the television all works fine.
The amplifier automatically selects "Dolby digital" when it receive the signal, so the signal is recognized from the amplifier. I will try to see whether I can use another mode. It seems like the D/A converter inside works better then the one in the amplifier because the analog audio comes out from the DVD and works fine.

    A step forward!

I've modified some settings in the DVD player.
Ther is a menu for the optical output. If I set to send PCM signal through the optical output both for mpeg signals and Dobly digital, all works fine. The amplifier recognizes the PCM source and all isok. If I chose to send mpeg signals and DD signals, DD are recognized, but not played. Mp2 signals are not recognized neither played.

The problem is, why the amplifier recognizes the DD signal but doesn;t plays it???? ANy hint??

    thank you so much

    Yes it works.

I've read the thread (thank you). There is no other way to create an ac3 file? I've imagined that this could be the problem, but I've not find any alternative to it so far.

    Thank you

  8. MyDVD 5.0 deluxe has a built in Dolby 2.0 encoder. $69 or so.
Nero also has a 2.0 encoder in the pipline - check their site.

  9. Watch out on those authoring softwares that offer Dolby Digital 2.0 encoding, such as MyDVD 5.2 and Nero 6. They will turn DD 5.1 files into 2.0, at least they did it to my ripped commerical DVD's.

If you have a Sony RW drive, MyDVD 5.2 is free. Just go to Sony support site for your drive.

I think I have MyDVD (I will check) because I've a Sony DVD 500U, even if I've never used it.

Thank you so much for your help!
