Dumping that @$$wipe is one step in the right direction.
Maybe now the studios will dump MPAA for over-stepping its bounds in business (ordering companies to not release screeners).Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

The upcoming verdict is being closely followed by all parties. A source told Variety that up to 10 antitrust lawsuits could be filed against the studios and the MPAA if the ban is not lifted.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... The studios reportedly agreed to send out VHS screeners (recipients previously had a choice between VHS and DVD) encrypted with a special security code traceable to individual Academy members. (Such a move will, presumably, keep the likes of Steven Spielberg from cranking out a few extra copies and selling them on eBay.)
Piracy will always exist. They need to realize they've got to combat ONLY piracy, not hurt movie companies and consumers in the process. They're poisoning an ant bed with an atomic bomb.
I don't support piracy of readily-available commodities (unused commodities is a different thing ENTIRELY in my eyes), but on the other hand, I don't support this Stalin-like attempt to rule the world through movies and DVDs.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Screeners will be recorded on VHS with EP mode to discourage piracy...That's the best tactic I could think of!
But that would also have the effect of discouraging Independent Filmmaking
("oh my god! they'll have to view it on a EP VHS MPAA approved screener") -
EP mode on pro equipment can be high quality. Not DVD, but not unwatchable either. But VHS is a dying format, this kind of tactic won't last long. And this does nothing to discourage piracy. You can still capture the show. Capturing and/or copying the video tape is probably easier than ripping a DVD for most people. This is a waste of everbody's time and resources.

How many of these academy voters are going to want to sit in their expensive home theaters and watch Dolby pro VHS. Not many, I bet they complain and we will see the DVD screeners come back in a short time.

Wait until some independent sends out a butt-kicking DVD screener. And it's competition is VHS. When the accademy members talk about poor quality screeners, you will see DVD's back in a flash. The first time a studio loses Best Picture because of VHS screeners (assuming the movie that won puts out a DVD SCreener) that will be the total end of VHS.
Wait for it.......To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
