Having a problem unpacking rar files. When I try to unpack them the program comes up with an error message saying that fat 32 drives only support files up to 4gb. I have a fat32 hard disk is there anyway around this problem other than buying another hard disk.

You need to convert your hard drive to NTFS.
Not sure how to do that without formatting tho. Try doing a google search for 'FAT32 to NTFS'.

If your running WinME or earlier then you cannot convert since those operating systems do not support NTFS.
If your running WinXP then you can convert as follows:
Use Start --Programs ---> Accessories --> Command Prompt
Then at the command prompt type Convert C: /fs:ntfs
This will convert the C drive to ntfs file system. It is nondestructive.
Note: You cannot read an NTFS drive from a dos boot. Furthermore, if you have dual boot with a previous operating system like win98, then you may want to check the implications -
Followed your instructions, after i type in what you said it comes up with:-
The type of file system is fat 32.
Enter current volume label for drive C.
I am running XP by the way. -
The only time you should get that message is if your trying to un-rar a DVDR image.
I forget where XP hides everything (and I mean they hide it on purpose as opposed to W2K), but Disk Manager will also do it.....re-boot required. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
I have now successfully changed the file system on the hard drive from fat 32 to NTFS with no loss from the hard disk and performance seems a little better to. Thanks for all the help
