I'm trying to backup the new Lion King DVD, which has the 'Special Edition' on one angle, and the normal 'Theatrical Edition' on another angle. Everything will fit nicely on a DVDR if I can just take out one of those angles, and leave everything else. I'm sure this is a job for IFOEdit, although I am lost when it comes to that program. I searched for guides and found none.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks foo... I'll give that a shot, will that leave all menus and special features intact?

Ok, so I tried messing around with IFOEdit, and now I'm completely confused.
Here's the background info:
I first tried using DVDShrink for this backup, which is where I saw that the main movie uses titles 35 and 36. DVDShrink will only allow me to seperate title 35 from 36 if I do Re-Author, which means I'd lose the menus. However, if I re-author, and delete title 36, the complete movie is only just over 2gb, which would leave plenty of space for the menus and extras.
When I tried using IFOEdit to strip the streams, the Angle option is greyed out. Is there a way for me to only take title 36 out using IFOEdit? -
I opened VTS_21_0.ifo which is main movie. It has PGC_1. PGC_2, and PGC_3. PGC_1 is the special edition, and PGC_2 is the theatrical edition. It looks like only chapter 24 (in both PGC_1 and PGC_2) has more than one angle. If I 'delete playback' of PGC_1, that won't actually get rid of those files right?
Thanks again for the help! -
I don' t know why the angle selection is unavailable when there
are angles. Delete playback wont help.
Do it with DVD Shrink and just get it all -
Smart ripper will let you manipulate the angles before you rip. I've done it before myself.

If you intend to keep the menu's than using your DVD Ripper to choose your angle isn't a good idea. IFOEdit is a much safer bet.
First off vandakeg, the angles on Lion King are not what you think. There are two PGCs each with different versions of the film on it. Then within each of these PGC's the last vob-ids use multiangles to store different ending credits. Stripping these angles will make a manual backup easier, but its not going to free up much space.
The same goes for stripping either of the two versions of the film. The only difference between the two versions is an added scene in the middle, and the fact that at the beginning of each version it has a single vob-id which displays the version you are watching, ie: "Special Edition." Basically, what I'm saying is, is that there are not two totally separate versions of the film stored on the disk. The film is stored once, and in the second PGC all of the vob-ids are reused except there are some extra ones added in. Even if you strip all but one PGC, you are not going to free up that much room at all. So with that in mind, process this movie however you see fit. This is why understanding the IFO's is so crucial. You have to understand that those vob-ids are being reused to understand why you shouldn't bother stripping anything.
As for stripping angles, make sure you have the latest version of IFOEdit. I had problems with .95. Also IFOEdit's angle option has been greyed out sometimes when I try to load the files from a mounted DVD image, though most of the time this does work. Other than that, if you want to strip angles just select the angle you want and set IFOEdit to correct IFO's rather than create new ones....unless you are just doing a movie only rip.
This is not an easy DVD to rip. If you do it manually you have to rip by vob-id, there's no way around it. As for using a transcoder like DVD Shrink, its no different than any other DVD. Stripping the extra angle or one of the versions will only save you a few hundred MB's at the most. -
Adam, thanks for the reply.. I actually got it to work. I don't know why, or really how it works, but it does. Here is what I did:
Opened VTS_21.ifo in IFOEdit, then deleted the playback of PGC_2. Saved and exitied. I then loaded the files into DVDShrink, and Titleset 36 was now gone, and only Titleset 35 was in the Main Movie section. I did notice that there was now about 500mb of stuff in the 'Unreferenced Material' section. I was able to keep the movie at 100%, as well as some of the extras.
Anyway, I haven't watched the backup all the way through, but I did chapter through it, and it seemed to work fine.
