  1. Hi. I'm currently using DVD Shrink 3.0B5. I'm wondering whether anyone has compared its video quality to that of IC8. Any opinions? Thanks.

  2. I used InstantCopy 8 on LOTR: Two Towers and, also used DVDShrink 3.0 Beta 5 with deep analysis. In my experiment, I found the results from both programs to be pretty much indistinguishable to my amateur, 20" TV owning eyes. Both gave some great results on this particular movie. The only thing that makes me wary of using DVDShrink 3.0 beta 5 is the fact that it strips forced subtitles. As for InstantCopy 8, the time factor is the real weak spot. You can't really go wrong with either program for this particular movie.

DVDShrink is more powerful than most people give it credit for.

It's pretty dam good for a quick backup with full menus/extras.

Go into re-author mode, drop the audio tracks and subs you don't want, and most of the time your over 90% on the re-compression, with deep analysis you wont' be able to tell this from the original. You can do the same in IFOEdit, but it's nice to see that you can keep the DTS track jsut in case you upgrade your stero :P

Now, with re-author mode, you can drag and drop things from multiple DVD's and make a 'best of' DVD with zero effort. This is also the no-brainer way to do episode DVD's.

  5. I'll hijack this topic a little - when I make the best of DVD's, every "re-author" is a seperate title - when I play them back, there is a noticable pause (about 1-2 seconds) when the titles switch. Is there any way to join all the titles into one so the playback is seemless?

Not in the current DVD Shrink version.
But a "Join Titles (seamlessly)" option might be included in the next release.

  7. I use shrink for about 80% of all my backing up. Shrink at it's best will compare quality wise to IC. One major difference is that IC will never give you any artifacts, Shrink will, on occasion.

  8. DVDShrink is a fantastic program - the join titles seamlessly is the only feature I would like that it currently doesn't have (other than ripping an entire DVD in 6 seconds). Really hoping to see it in a near future version...
