  1. hey guys, i'm a n00b to dvd burning, so i need some help. i have a sony dru510A, and have a dell dimension. i've been trying to use DVD X Copy express. the process goes along fine, but when its finished the DVD-R won't play in any player because the edge of the DVD appears to have melted. i have tried 3 different times and they all come out this way. i'm using sony DVDR's. i don't think there are any settings to fiddle with because DVDXCOPY xpress doesn't offer any. can anybody help me?? TIA!!!

Go into settings on DVD Copy Express see if there is a place to select "do not melt the edges of my disks".

If not it's probably a physical problem with your drive. If there is any little piece that for some reason is touching the disk while it is spinning it seems like that might cause it to look like it was melted (what exactly does it look like?). If at all possible just return the drive and get a new one. This is definitely not normal.

  4. try reducing the amound of data u put on the disc by 200MB or so. that way the edge won't get burnt and u can avoid melting.

  5. What are the make and model numbers of your DVD players? Also Are you using DVD-R or DVD+R media and what speed is the media rated at 1x, 2 or 4? Does the Sony drive feel hot to the touch after a burn? If so maybe you need to add a case fan or even a slot fan to reduce the inside case temperature. Could just be a defective drive (it does happen).

  7. Are you sure you're not just looking at the glue holding the layers together ?

    Some discs exhibit "seepage".

I've heard of this problem. The *No Melt* setting in most ripping and burning software is often buried deep within the preferences, usually just above the *No Coaster* checkbox, so it's not uncommon for newbies to overlook this detail. If you don't rip it set to not melt, you need to remember to set it in Nero....cuz otherwise... the burner (hence the name) will think it's ok to melt it.

If all the settings are correct, take the drive back to where u got it.
