  1. Hi,

I have a LITEON DVD-ROM LTD163 that came with my Dell Dimension 4550 (XP Home). I have read that the LTD163 is one of the best/fastest drives to rip movies. I have updated the firmware (to GDHJ) and uninstalled then reinstalled IDE controllers and enabled DMA on all devices, as recommended on all the pages I have read, but both DVD Decrypter (3.1.6 and 3.1.7) and SmartRipper (2.41) continue to rip with a max speed of 2x-2.5x, taking an hour or sometimes more to rip a movie... I am trying to find out what I need to do in order to be able to rip a movie in 10-15 minutes, as many have been able to do...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your time...

  3. I have read that there is a deliberate speed limit on ripping from DVD recorders, posted with the advice to try using a DVD read only unit. I have an internal NEC1300 burner and an older generic DVD player in an external case connected by USB, rated slower than the NEC. Ripping from this unit is consistently 2-3 times faster than the recorder, tho.

I'm using a LITEON DVD-ROM LTD163 and it rips from 4-14X on most movies, so the problem is probably not the drive.

I don't know what else you could do. Have you re-checked that DMA stayed enabled after you enabled it? I know that occasionally mine resets itself to PIO only (haven't figured out why yet) and I have to reset it.
