I have 2 drives right now in seperate bays, a dvd-rom and a cd-rw. Im thinking of getting a dvd burner...would it be wiser to replace my cd-rw drive or my dvd-rom drive? Or would it not make a difference? And would there be master/slave problems if they're both -rw drives?

I must be missing something in the question
DRD-rw will burn both DVDs and CDs. BTW CDs do noy have + or - issues.
Unless you burn a lot of CDs and you have a fast CD burner, I would replace the CD burner by the DVD burner. the DVD-ROM will enable you to copy DVDs directly if you ever need to do it.
There will not be any master/slave issue if you follow instructions correctly. In recent computers, this is implemented automatically. If you have an older computer, you will have to decide on 1 drive to be the master and the other to be the slave. -
Replace your CDRW drive with DVDRW, keep the DVD ROM for ripping DVDs and CDs (for playback, basically) and use your new DVD burner just for burning.
I'd recommend setting the new DVD burner as Secondary Master and DVD ROM - as Secondary Slave. -
Well, the thing is, a new dvd burner would also double as a dvd-rom (for playback), and considering my old one is 16x and the new one would most likely be 12x (not much of a speed difference since it never goes that high anyway), I could have 2 burners to burn more than 1 copy at a time (Nero can do that, i think?), and also have a dvd-reader for direct dvd copying...
^ not a question, lol!-Yar, matey!- -
The thing is, never use your DVD-RW as a DVD-ROM unless you absolutely have to. Although it can play DVDs and such, its basic raison d'etre is to burn. It will do this longer if it does not pull double duty as a DVD-ROM
Hello. -
I removed my DVD burner from a firewire case and installed it in my computer and found it rips slower than my DVD ROM, also I started getting errors. I finally added a PCI IDE card, now I can use both plus my CD-RW. Of course you need enough room and enough power supply to make this work, but I like it
