  1. A friend of mine who owns his own computer repair/building business is also a certified Microsoft rep. He has a demo disc that will allow him to load a full-featured version of XP on 6 computer for a six month trial on each computer. So what will XP do for me? I've been told that all my programs that are compatible with Professional 2000 or NT4 will also be compatable with XP. I'm going to have my friend over on Saturday to do the install. Will XP rid me of the dreaded FAT-32 file compression?

  3. Googlioboy, there is no such thing as "FAT-32 File Compession", FAT-32 is a File System. But to answer your question yes, you have a choice with XP to either install over NTFS or FAT-32 formatted disk.

Yeshi, there are some things quite wrong with FAT-32, mainly file-size limits and speed.

  4. Well, there is drive compression that some people used on Fat32 partitions. I'm not sure, but I think that is available for NTFS too...

Well, you will get rid of the 4gig filesize limitation with NTFS.

You should be warned though, XP gets fragmented very quickly. You should defrag it once a week, at the very least.
