  1. Quick Question,

Okay, so im trying this out for my buddies family, i wanna see if its possible so im doing it for them.

They have all there home movies on Hi8 tapes. There camera is soo old and has no link to firewire or n e thing like that, so ive been wondering how i would get the footage onto computer. If I got one of those VHS tapes where u stick the mini tape in the middle so it will play on a normal VCR and then if i hook up my Sharp HiFi VCR to my computer( I have a ATI ALL IN WONDER 8500 128MB), would that be a good approach??

I thought it would so i decided to bounce it off u guys.

Any input would be GREAT :P

I think that only works if you have a compact-VHS (VHS-C) tape, I've never seen it for 8 mm or hi-8. You may have to find something else to play the tape.

I would borrow a miniDV cam with analog passthrough, connect the Hi8 cam to the DVcam with the DVcams AV cable, and the DVcam to the computer via firewire. I did this to capture 8mm tapes and it worked like a charm, I think most people will agree that the covnersion is the equal of any card, plus you don't have to worry about dropped frames like you do with analog capture.
