    Hey,

Lately, i'm having this strange problem with my MPEG-2 codec. It used to work fine, but since a couple of weeks, most video playback programs i have installed have problems with the sound. It sounds like there is a helicopter on the foreground all the time, i'm not sure what the correct term for this is .

But some specific players, like PowerDVD, VideoLAN do play it fine...

Now, this doesn't seem like a big problem as you would normally play an MPEG-2 file in a program like PowerDVD anyway.. but when encoding to an MPEG-2 file, the behaviour tends to get passed on the the created file.
For example, when encoding a file with nero 6 to mpeg-2, the file is encoded WITH the behaviour in it, so even PowerDVD doesn't play it right.

    Any ideas? thanks!

EDIT: ok, i just realise how stupid this is.. has nothing to do with mpeg-2 codec ofcourse.. but with AC3 filter, right?

  2. PowerDVD and VideoLan Player uses a set of decoders that come 'built in', they do not use the decoders you have installed, so yes, you've done something to your codecs.

MPEG-2 (as in SVCD and single video clips) doesn't use AC-3 (Dolby Digital), so no, that doesn't sound right.
