  1. Hey everyone........I am sure I got a corrupt file here but maybe some of you know something I don't.

I downloaded a Rar file........pretty big one too. About 800mb. Well when I go to open it with Winrar 3.20.....the most current version I believe, I get an error saying: "the archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

I probably got a bad copy. But maybe some of you know something I don't and can open it up. Thanks for any help.

Have you scanned all the chunks of that archive to see if it has a virus attached?

    Otherwise you may be screwed.

  3. Do I just scan it with winrar? Or is there another way to do it.

    Thanks

You would have to can them with your anti virus software. If you don't have any anit virus try http://www.grisoft.com

Chances are that one or more of the chunks is just a few bytes over or under the proper amount, and you will have to find out which ones are bad and try to replace them.

Winrar should let you know which parts are corrupt when you try to extract them.

that could mean its not an rar.maybe the extention was renamed.
    try opening it with isobuster.

if it was corrupt you would be able to open it and see the file inside, but a popup would say its corrupt.

  6. Is it a multi-volume rar file? To recover corrupted multi-volume rar files, you have to get PAR files or PAR2 files, depending on which PAR recover system you are using. SmartPAR and QuichPar are two most popular one.
    Do a google search.
